Job Description
In the last decade, we have managed to go from one store to over 50… and we are still growing! The Retail Engagement & Communications Associate will play a vital role on our Retail Brand Experience team supporting the creation, organization, and delivery of retail-facing communication, training materials, and marketing content in a clear, branded, and timely way to our fleet of 50 stores.
We are looking for someone who can strategically optimize our internal communication channels, and identify new methods to reach and engage team members.
This includes:
- Assisting the Retail Brand Experience manager with devising and implementing internal communication strategies that align with Marine Layer’s objectives and enhance employee engagement
- Working closely with senior retail leadership cross functional partners to produce strategic weekly fleet-wide comms for all areas of the business
- Being a work-load gatekeeper, and ensuring that all initiatives are focused on supporting improved business processes for stores, customer experience and increased productivity in stores
- Working closely with the Retail Brand Experience manager & the marketing team to understand and execute strategies that drive traffic, sales, and conversion. This involves using promotions, ads, and local marketing to support both new and existing stores.
You will work cross-functionally with a wide variety of field and HQ departments; excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must, in addition to strong analytical and problem-solving skills. This role reports to the Retail Brand Experience Manager.
Scope
Specifically, you’ll be responsible for the following:
- Drafting and publishing all internal retail team communication
- Maintaining the retail communications calendar and monitoring field engagement and feedback, collaborating with the Retail Brand Experience Manager on implementation of data gathering methodology
- Proposing layout, verbiage and creative production for all internal materials
- Executing the translation of Web campaigns for stores, creating visuals, talking points, etc.
- Coordinating with Marketing and Visual teams to obtain relevant assets for internal and external use
- Coordinating with Brand Environment to minimize impact of store actions on both teams and customers
- Collaborating with the Retail Brand Experience Manager to execute back of house branded environment visuals & experience
- Collaborating closely with the Retail Technical & Process Specialist to ensure all processes and materials work seamlessly in stores

You should know the brand, like the brand, and understand what it takes to build the brand and represent the company in an authentic way. You will be responsible for cultivating an authentic communicative voice that reinforces and strengthens our brand.
- An Excellent (and Creative) Communicator.
You are concise, thoughtful, and get the Marine Layer vibe. You have experience in different communication programs, and are able to apply clear brand strategy to larger company objectives. You are excited about the prospect of helping the team to achieve operational excellence by strategically managing the flow and content of internal communications.
- Organized
You should have experience managing complex projects, timelines, and deliverables with a high degree of attention to detail. You should be able to set specific, measurable, and replicable performance objectives, and work proactively across teams to get results.

- 2-4 years of relevant experience, with at least 2 years in a corporate retail operations/communications role.
- Proven ability to maximize operational workload efficiency by using strategic brand communication programs
- Demonstrated time management skills
- Experience in Instructional Design, Retail Operations, or Brand Strategy a plus
