Job Summary
Marin Jazz and Performing Arts is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to bring fun and enriching after-school classes, programs, camps and activities to 2nd - 8th grade students in Marin County.
The Assistant Musical Theater Director position is responsible for assisting the Director in the day-to-day management of the organization. The ideal candidate will have a background in dance, theater, or education and will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of programs and events. This role is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about the arts and is looking for a challenging and rewarding career.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Director with preparing, and organizing all necessary materials for the classes. Including the creative planning and execution of the final production.
- Assist in directing a 30min-1hour musical production; teaching acting technique, assisting in creating choreography and blocking, supporting music learning and implementing creative use of props and background sets.
- Student Supervision: Oversee students. Maintain a positive and productive learning environment, and ensure students’ safety and well-being during classes. Accompany and support students backstage during tech rehearsal and performances.
- Leading rehearsal of scenes, musical numbers, line reading, and improvisational games per Directors discretion.
- Assist in communication with parents, school personnel or any other staff outside of, or within, Marin Jazz and Performing Arts.
- Keeping up to date notes in script regarding blocking, cuts, additions, lighting cues, music cues, set changes, and costume changes.
- Must be available for all classes and final show dates.
Qualifications
- 6 months experience working with school aged students in an instructional setting is preferred.
- High School diploma or GED; Bachelor’s degree in Theater, Education, or similar field, (or working towards one) is a plus.
- A basic understanding of musical theater and production process.
- Ability to manage school aged students with appropriate guidance and patience, including understanding of techniques to maintain composure in a high-energy environment.
- Strong organizational skills including the ability to multitask and solve problems quickly in a decisive, creative and proactive manner.
Job Types: Part-time, Seasonal
Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
