What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Technician position at Marin Humane Society?
We are looking for a Maintenance Technician who combines expert-level technical skill with a heart for service. As a member of our facilities team, you won’t just be responding to work orders; you’ll be a problem-solver and a steward of our 6.3-acre campus and offsite locations.
If you are a skilled tradesperson who thrives on variety—from troubleshooting HVAC systems to custom-building specialty equipment—and you want to see the direct impact of your work every day, we want to meet you!
Why Join Us?
At Marin Humane, we don’t just offer a job; we offer a community. Our team is defined by a dedication to animals and a collaborative spirit that ensures no one works in a silo. We practice courage with compassion, tackling difficult challenges with empathy and resilience. We are lifelong students who value a pursuit of learning, and we believe our mission is strongest when we are celebrating differences and welcoming diverse perspectives. When you join our team, you aren't just maintaining our campus—you are safeguarding a community where animals heal, people connect and compassion comes to life.
What You’ll Do
As our Maintenance Technician, you will operate with a high degree of independence to keep our facilities in peak condition. Your impact includes:
- Advanced Troubleshooting: Diagnose and repair complex issues across electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and HVAC systems.
- Facilities Stewardship: Perform preventative maintenance on building systems, electric and combustion motors, water features, and animal housing to ensure a safe environment for the animals and staff throughout our 6.3 acre campus and offsite locations.
- Project Leadership: Lead small-scale upgrades, coordinate with external vendors, and advise on "repair vs. replace" decisions for the annual budget.
- Innovative Craftmanship: Use your skills to custom-build specialty equipment unique to our facilities and animal care needs.
- Operational Support: Ensure our campus and offsite locations remain safe, functional and operating at its best.
What You Bring
- Deep Technical Expertise: A strong working knowledge of building trades (plumbing, electrical, and carpentry) and experience with HVAC controls and mechanical systems.
- Problem-Solving Mindset: The ability to independently diagnose root causes and implement lasting solutions for complex system failures.
- Professionalism: You are calm in fast-paced environments and dedicated to great customer service.
- Reliability: You are organized, keep a clean shop, and are willing to respond to emergencies when the animals or facilities need you most.
- Collaborative Communication: A knack for building strong relationships with staff, volunteers, and vendors.
- Commitment to the Mission: A genuine desire to support the mission, goals and values of Marin Humane through your technical expertise.
