Marin Catholic Head Athletic Trainer

The Marin Catholic mission: Lead students to Jesus Christ is the primary objective of all departments, including Athletics. The Head Athletic Trainer is responsible for the prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries for all Marin Catholic students. This position oversees the athletic training program, ensures compliance with CIF and school health and safety protocols, and serves as a critical resource for coaches, families, and administration on matters related to student health and welfare.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide athletic training services for practices, games, and events across all sports, including on-site injury evaluation, first aid, taping, bracing, and rehabilitation
  • Develop and implement injury prevention and rehabilitation programs tailored to individual and team needs
  • Coordinate referrals to physicians, specialists, and other healthcare providers as needed
  • Maintain accurate and confidential medical records for all student-athletes
  • Communicate with parents/guardians regarding injuries, treatment plans, and return-to-play timelines
  • Concussion Management
  • Administer and manage the ImPACT (Immediate Post-Concussion
  • Assessment and Cognitive Testing) baseline and post-injury testing program for all students
  • Oversee and enforce the school’s concussion protocol in compliance with CIF regulations and state law, including return-to-learn and return-to-play progressions
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for concussion-related concerns among coaches, parents, and medical professionals
  • Collaborate with MC’s designated neuropsychologist expert on concussion assessment and care

Environmental Safety

  • Monitor the Heat Advisory Index and manage Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) readings to determine practice and event modifications or cancellations in accordance with CIF and NATA guidelines
  • Develop and enforce heat illness prevention policies, including hydration protocols, acclimatization schedules, and emergency action plans for heat-related emergencies
  • Educate coaches and staff on environmental safety best practices

Coach Education and Compliance

  • Organize, schedule, and oversee CPR/AED certification and recertification for all coaching staff, ensuring compliance with CIF and school requirements
  • Provide ongoing education to coaches on injury recognition, emergency procedures, concussion awareness, and best practices in student-athlete safety
  • Ensure all coaches maintain current certifications and safety training as required by the school and governing bodies

Budget & Supply Management

  • Manage the athletic training budget, including forecasting, purchasing, and tracking expenditures
  • Order, inventory, and maintain all athletic training supplies, equipment, and modalities
  • Ensure the athletic training facility is clean, organized, well-stocked, and in compliance with health and safety standards

Administration and Collaboration

  • Develop, review, and update Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) for all athletic venues
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Principal for Athletics, Athletic Directors, coaching staff, and administration on health and safety policies
  • Maintain relationships with league athletic trainers, local hospitals, orthopedic clinics, and emergency services
  • Attend department meetings, school events, and professional development opportunities as required

Supervision and Oversight

  • Oversee student volunteers with an interest in athletic training; teaching students how to perform basic training room duties including taping, stim, heating, icing, etc.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training, Kinesiology, Sports Medicine, or a related field. Master's is preferred.
  • Practicing Catholic in good standing preferred
  • Experience in Catholic or Independent school, preferred
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in athletic training, preferably in a secondary school or collegiate setting
  • Board of Certification (BOC) certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) in good standing
  • Current California Athletic Trainer license or eligibility for licensure
  • Current CPR/AED certification for Healthcare Providers
  • ImPACT-trained or willingness to become certified prior to start date
  • Proficiency with Wet Bulb Globe Temperature monitoring equipment and interpretation
  • Familiarity with CIF-NCS (North Coast Section) rules and regulations, preferred
  • Experience managing budgets and athletic training facilities, preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a demonstrated commitment to the mission and values of Catholic education

Work Schedule, Environment & Compensation

  • This a salaried, exempt, year round position.
  • The annualized salary for this position is $80,000 - $90,000.
  • There will be evening and weekend hours required for games and events, as well as occasional travel for away games and professional development.

Full-time staff at Marin Catholic are eligible for benefits including health and dental insurance, health and dependent care flex plan, Archdiocesan pension and 403b.
