Responsibilities
Vessel Command: Ensure the safe navigation and operation of the SSV Makani Olu in Hawaiian waters, adhering to all U.S. Coast Guard regulations.
Educational Leadership: Instruct participants in maritime skills, including sailing techniques, navigation, safety protocols, and seamanship, as part of Marimed's training programs.
Mentorship: Guide and inspire students, fostering their personal and professional growth within the maritime industry.
Maintenance Oversight: Supervise and perform routine maintenance and necessary repairs to ensure the vessel's optimal condition.
Safety Management: Implement and enforce safety procedures to protect all crew members and trainees aboard.
Cultural Stewardship: Promote ocean stewardship and integrate traditional Hawaiian seafaring practices into the training curriculum.
Qualifications
Valid U.S. Coast Guard 100 Ton Near Coastal License with Auxiliary Sail Endorsement.
Valid USCG Medical Certificate
Valid TWIC
CPR/FA/AED Certified
Demonstrated experience sailing in Hawaiian waters preferred.
Proficiency in vessel maintenance, including mechanical and electrical systems.
Prior experience overseeing dry dock of a steel hull vessel preferred
Strong instructional and interpersonal skills, with a passion for teaching and mentoring.
