Sewing Machine Service & Repair Technician

Marietta's Quilt & Sew/We're In Stitches
Simpsonville, SC Full Time | Part Time
POSTED ON 7/7/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 11/3/2026

About Us

Marietta's Quilt & Sew is sewing supplies store and sewing machine dealership in Simpsonville, SC, serving a passionate community of quilters, sewists, and embroidery enthusiasts across the Upstate. We sell and support a full range of domestic sewing machines, longarm quilting systems, and multi-needle embroidery machines.

The Role

We're looking for a part-time (potentially full time) technician to split time between in-shop repair work and on-site service calls for our customers' homes. You'll work on domestic sewing machines, high-end longarm quilting systems, and multi-needle embroidery machines — diagnosing issues, performing maintenance, and installing new equipment right in the spaces where our customers create.

This is a hands-on role for someone who's mechanically sharp, detail-oriented, and enjoys working directly with people. Prior sewing machine experience is preferred, but we'll train the right candidate who brings strong mechanical and electronics troubleshooting skills.

What You'll Do

  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues across a wide range of domestic sewing, quilting, and embroidery machines — using technical manuals, manufacturer support, and your own troubleshooting instincts
  • Perform cleaning, lubrication, timing adjustments, tension calibration, hook system service, and general repair in the shop
  • Travel to customers' homes to install new longarm quilting systems and multi-needle embroidery machines, including leveling, threading, and initial calibration
  • Conduct in-home service calls for machines that can't be brought into the shop
  • Walk customers through basic machine operation after installations and service — patience and clear communication are a must
  • Maintain detailed service records, work orders, and parts logs for every job
  • Coordinate service routes and appointment scheduling with the shop team

What We're Looking For

Required:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude — you understand how things work and can read a technical manual or schematic to troubleshoot a problem
  • Experience in sewing machine repair, appliance repair, electronics, or a closely related technical field
  • Comfortable working in customers' homes — professional, courteous, and reliable
  • Valid driver's license and dependable transportation
  • Good communication skills; you'll represent We're In Stitches every time you walk through a customer's door

Preferred:

  • Direct experience servicing domestic sewing machines, longarms, or embroidery machines (brands such as Bernina, Baby Lock, Janome, Grace or similar)
  • Familiarity with electronic components and the ability to interpret wiring or mechanical diagrams
  • Prior field service or in-home service experience

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with quilting, sewing, or embroidery — understanding the craft helps you better understand the customer

What We Offer

  • A supportive team environment in a specialty retail setting
  • Brand-specific training provided (Bernina and others)
  • Flexible schedule built around shop hours and service appointments
  • The opportunity to grow with an expanding company

Schedule

Part-time, flexible — combination of scheduled in-shop hours and service/install appointments.

Pay: $15.00 - $30.00 per hour

Benefits:

  • Flexible schedule
  • Paid training
  • Professional development assistance
