POSITION:Maintenance Mechanic and Welder
CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:12-month year Support Staff Salary Scale
REPORTS TO: Director of Facilities and Operations
GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
Welder: Responsible for repairing and maintaining various metal components within school facilities, including equipment, fixtures, building structures, and playground equipment, using welding techniques like arc welding, MIG welding, and TIG welding, while adhering to safety regulations and blueprints, often under supervision Mechanic; Responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance on all vehicles within a school district maintenance fleet ensuring their safe and operational functionality by addressing mechanical issues with expertise in automotive systems and
compliance with safety regulations.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES: (essential functions)
? Experience in various welding techniques: Proficiency in MIG, TIG, and arc welding processes.
? Basic mechanical skills: Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and other maintenance equipment.
? Blueprint reading skills: Understanding technical drawings and specifications
? Physical ability: Capability to lift heavy objects, work in confined spaces, and maintain proper posture for extended periods. ? Preventative maintenance:
? Regularly servicing vehicles by changing oil, checking tire pressure, inspecting brakes, and performing other scheduled maintenance tasks as per manufacturer guidelines.
? Diagnostic repairs: Identifying and troubleshooting mechanical issues on vehicles, including engine malfunctions, electrical problems, transmission issues, and hydraulic system failures.
? Parts replacement Ordering necessary parts, removing old components, and installing new parts to repair vehicles.
? Body repairs Addressing minor body damage, including dents, scratches, and broken lights
? Documentation and recordkeeping Maintaining detailed repair logs, documenting parts used, and updating vehicle maintenance records.
? Compliance with safety standards Adhering to all safety protocols related to vehicle maintenance, including proper lifting techniques, use of personal protective equipment, and adherence to DOT regulations.
? Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Able to perform the following physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodation: critical sensory requirements include general vision, corrected to 20/20, hear or listen in the normal range (corrected) and speak and give directions clearly. Able to walk, stand, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, lift (exerting force up to 60 pounds), carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Able to crawl, bend and work in confined spaces. Able to drive/travel in the performance of job requirements Able to operate a forklift and pallet jack
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED and six (6) months experience in warehouse work OR an equivalent combination of education and experience that provide the required knowledge and skills. REQUIRED LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Valid Driver’s License, Automotive Service Excellence Certification – ASE (Preferred), Certified Welder Certification (Preferred)
