Position Description: District Lead Registered Nurse  

Reports To: Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services  

Classification: Exempt 12-Month 

General Statement of Responsibilities: Provide direction of all Health Services, to analyze and revise services to best meet students’ health needs; coordinate programs in the School Health Services Department assuring all Board policies and state laws and regulations are met. 

 Principle Duties: 

  1. Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with others. 
  2. Develop and implement appropriate policies and guidelines in support of the School Health Services Program. 
  3. Assist with the recruitment, selection, and orientation of school Health Staff. 
  4. Supervise duties to registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and health assistants working as a part of the School Health Services Program. The Lead Nurse will provide technical feedback to the building principal who evaluates the RN assigned to their campus. 
  5. District Health Nurse will train all Health Office staff. 
  6. Plan and supervise the school wide screening program for vision and hearing. 
  7. Compile final screening statistics for annual report. 
  8. Review and implement all laws, regulations, and directives regarding health issues received from county and state health agencies.  
  9. Plan and coordinate health related trainings for school personnel.  
  10. Assist all Health Services staff to prepare and provide school health presentations for their school campus. 
  11. Maintain quality of care by all staff who also treat all students and school staff with courtesy and respect.
  12. Provide health education to all district staff.
  13. Provide consultation regarding community health issues for MUSD.
  14. Provide on-site support for summer school.                                                                                            

Knowledge and Skills: 

  • Knowledge of nursing policies and practices. 
  • Knowledge of public health policies, programs, and practices. 
  • Knowledge of community health resources and programs. 
  • Knowledge of current nursing practice and management of students who require specialized nursing care while attending school. 
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, FERPA, and OSHA regulations and guidelines. 
  • Knowledge of infection control and prevention of communicable diseases in the schools. 

 

Required License/Certification: 

 

  • State of Arizona Board Certified Registered Nursing License 
  • Arizona Level One Fingerprint Card
  • CPR Certification   



Preferred License/Certification:

  • Arizona Hearing Certification
  • Arizona Vision Certification
  • Crisis Intervention Prevention

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Bachelor of Science degree in nursing, with additional coursework in public health nursing preferred.

 

REQUIRED LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:  State of Arizona Board Certified Registered Nursing License, CPR Certification and Hearing Testing Certification.
