Job Summary
The MCC Art Gallery Preparator assists the Gallery Coordinator in the planning, promotion and installation of rotating exhibitions and assumes primary responsibility for the care and maintenance of the gallery workroom, storage areas, equipment and supplies.
Essential Functions
- Prepare permanent and moveable walls, pedestals, floors and fabricated display stands
- Install and deinstall gallery exhibitions, including artwork placement, signage and lighting
- Submit facility maintenance requests, track inventory and order supplies, and manage permanent collection of artwork using software applications and spreadsheets
- Set up and monitor electronic equipment for digital media
- Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Experience in the handling, installation, preservation and storage of artwork
- Knowledge of exhibition space preparation, including basic carpentry, sanding, painting, and lighting
- Familiarity with digital media and electronic equipment
- Ability to follow direction, work independently and adhere to health & safety guidelines and accessibility regulations
Desired Qualifications
- Attention to detail, organizational and time management skills, and ability to multi-task under deadline pressures
- Excellent customer service skills, positive attitude and willingness to engage with artists, gallery visitors, vendors and community partners
- A background in the visual or performing arts
Special Working Conditions
- May require some evenings during special events
- Must lift up to 50 lbs, climb a ladder, operate heavy machinery and handle potentially hazardous materials (blades, glass, paints, solvents and cleaning supplies)
- Possession of a valid State of Arizona Class D driver's license is required; must meet minimum standards regarding driving: https://district.maricopa.edu/regulations/admin-regs/section-4/4-14
- Will drive a utility cart and cargo van off campus as needed.
