What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Interior Designer position at Mariana Martin Studio?
Senior Interior Designer Mariana Martin Studio | Scottsdale, AZ | Full Time, In Office $75,000 - $95,000? DOE
About Us
Mariana Martin Studio is a boutique high end residential interior design studio based in Scottsdale with projects underway in AZ, CA, MT, and TX. We work on a wide range of projects and styles, from full scale renovations to specs and custom new builds. Our studio has a tight knit, family feel that allows us to employ a collaborative design process for clients that we select. Designers that are passionate and curious, take pride in their work, bring ideas to the table, and genuinely care about the outcome will fit in perfectly with our team!
The Role
We are looking for a Senior Interior Designer to join us full time. You will lead projects from concept through installation, working directly with clients, architects, builders, and our internal design team. This is a role for someone who loves the full arc of a project, especially the technical side, and who wants creative ownership within a firm that actually lets you have it.
Core Experience Requirements
- 5–8 years of high-end residential design. No new graduates will be considered.
- Proven involvement in full-service projects
- Experience taking projects from concept through installation
Design & Technical Skills
- Strong space planning and architectural fluency (reading plans, redlines, collaborating with builders/architects)
- Degree in Interior Design or Interior Architecture, 4yr degree highly preferred
- High level of material and finish knowledge (stone, millwork, plumbing, lighting)
- Knowledge of custom millwork design
- On-site experience (site visits, install days, punch lists)
- Ability to produce construction drawings, furniture plans, elevations and detailing
- Proficiency in tools like AutoCAD, SketchUp, rendering software, Canva, Google Suite.
- Strong FF&E sourcing across both trade vendors and custom pieces
Project Leadership
- Ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously
- Experience working within the given budgets, timelines, and managing procurement
- Comfortable owning client communication
- Ability to direct junior designers or collaborate on larger projects with other designers
Client-Facing Skills
- Confident presenting design concepts to high-end clients
- Ability to receive feedback without losing authority, and translate client input into clear direction
- Quick on your feet when issues arise, because, let’s be real, they always do. Resourceful and able to defuse a situation and put people at ease rather than feeding into it.
Business & Operations Awareness
- Familiarity with procurement processes and order tracking
- Experience working with vendors, showrooms, and workrooms
- Understanding of margins, pricing, and client budgets
- Ability to problem-solve in real time (delays, substitutions, site issues)
Taste Level
- A strong, point-of-view portfolio
- Work that shows consistency, restraint, and decision-making and not just trend-following
- Ability to design in the firm’s voice (or elevate it) with your personal spin on it
- A real passion for design. Curious, able to foresee new and upcoming trends and styles before they become “trendy”, and always learning. Willingness to improve, evolve, and seek new and interesting details to incorporate in our work.
Soft Skills
- Highly organized and detail-oriented
- Self-directed (minimal oversight needed)
- Calm under pressure
- Solutions-oriented mindset
- Professional presence with clients and vendors.
- Personal style: doesn't have to be formal but a cool vibe that lets your individuality shine
What We Offer
- A studio culture that respects your time. No 70 hour weeks. No micromanaging.
- Direct client access and real creative voice in our work
- Carefully curated client list. We turn down projects that aren't a fit.
- Beautiful office in central Scottsdale (5665 N Scottsdale Rd)
- Coffee, snacks, team lunches, and a team that actually likes each other (zero cattiness)
How to Apply
Send your resume, portfolio, and a brief note about why this role interests you. In your portfolio, please include examples of your technical drawing packages, not just renderings or finished photos. We want to see your CAD work.
