As a part of a diverse community of faculty and staff who represent many faith systems and worldviews, Marian University’s Leighton School of Nursing is seeking an Assistant Professor (12 month) for the bachelors of science nursing (BSN) program. Faculty in the Leighton School of Nursing (LSON) promote our Catholic Franciscan mission and identity by actively engaging in course deliver, responsible assessment, planning, implementation, grading, course development, student examinations, and evaluation of assigned courses. The Nursing Faculty evaluates the performance of students with a focus on a student retention and successful obtainment of the RN licensure.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Actively engage the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values and honoring the legacy of the founding congregation through transformative education, unity in diversity, leadership through service, integrating faith and life, and institutional policies.
- Participate in all responsibilities of teaching courses, including student orientation, grading assignments, discussion posts, exams, clinical skills learning, stimulation, and any other course assessments.
- Participate in all aspects of test review for assigned courses.
- Participate in all course responsibilities and assignments related to teaching, grading, assessing courses, retaining students, and contributing actively, whether teaching in a team or as an individual
- Grading assignments, proctor exams, review tests and engage in course delivery.
- Teach a full-time teaching load which may consists of a combination of on-campus or online didactic and clinical
- Participate in all aspects of facilitating test proctoring, test item writing, proctoring, and test review
- Create lectures, content, and materials for courses
- Promote retention and persistence of students through calling, emailing, and other forms of engagement.
- Participate in test reviews, standardized testing reviews, to prepare students appropriately for course success and NCLEX testing
- Attend pinning ceremonies and other events and activities as assigned
- Submit midterm and final grades on time
- Act as mentor and role model for students in classroom and clinical, including Skills Lab and Simulation Lab.
- Facilitate learning of relevant course material.
- Evaluate students’ academic and clinical performance.
- Maintain office hours weekly for student consultations.
- Maintain accurate scholastic records and abide by FERPA policies
- Show evidence of professional development through activities such as continuing education, certifications, professional organizations, volunteering at a free clinic, etc.
- If outside employment in an educational or clinical setting is desired, it must not conflict with duties within LSON.
- Participate in MU and LSON committees as part of faculty service and to contribute to the MU strategic plan, mission, and vision.
- Participate in activities to maintain accreditation and state board of nursing standards.
- Ensure continued program quality and productivity through participation in Systematic Program Assessment.
- Participate in recruitment, admission, and enrollment activities.
- Foster open communication with all departments within the institution to facilitate negotiations and good working relationships.
- Teach course in accordance with the class schedule and course syllabi.
- Role model professional behaviors in all work-related settings.
- Maintain collaborative relationships with professional and health care agencies.
- Represent the nursing department in relevant community functions.
- Participate in activities to promote the profession of nursing
- Encourage students to participate in test reviews and utilize NCLEX preparation exams and learning resources.
- Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
- Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of Marian University. Must be willing and able to advance the University mission.
- An earned doctorate degree in nursing is preferred. Candidates with a Master’s Degree in Nursing and either proven or presumptive potential to obtain an appropriate terminal degree to be considered. Academic Rank will be determined by experience in the assigned area of responsibility and credentials.
- Current unencumbered licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Indiana. RN licensure. Eligible to hold a Compact License or licenses in additional states as required to teach online for partner sites.
- Minimum of three years’ experience in the practice of nursing required and prior academic teaching at undergraduate level preferred.
- Experience in Women's Health/OB strongly preferred
