Margolis Company | Roseville, MN

Full-Time | Construction Division

Salary $70-90k

About the Role

Margolis Company is looking for an Estimator to join our Construction team. This role is responsible for turning project documents, takeoffs, quotes, and scope decisions into complete, accurate, and commercially sound bids.

The Estimator plays an important role in helping Margolis pursue and win the right work while maintaining strong bid quality, accurate pricing, reliable deadlines, and a smooth transition from estimating into project management and operations.

We’re looking for someone who is organized, detail-oriented, proactive, and comfortable managing multiple priorities and deadlines. Success in this role isn't just about producing bids quickly—it's about producing complete, thoughtful estimates and following opportunities through from initial review to final handoff.

What You’ll Do
  • Own assigned estimate packages from initial document review through bid submission.
  • Review drawings, specifications, scope documents, and revisions to identify quantities, assumptions, exclusions, risks, and potential scope gaps.
  • Complete or coordinate quantity takeoffs and maintain clear supporting documentation.
  • Build and manage timelines for active bids, including deadlines, required inputs, quote requests, clarification questions, reviews, and submission requirements.
  • Apply approved pricing inputs, production assumptions, and estimating standards.
  • Request, track, and follow up on subcontractor and material quotes.
  • Coordinate with vendors, subcontractors, project managers, procurement, and construction leadership.
  • Identify missing or conflicting information and raise clarification questions early in the estimating process.
  • Prepare complete bid packages and ensure submissions are accurate and delivered on time.
  • Follow up after bid submission on client questions, scope clarifications, pricing revisions, and next steps.
  • Prepare clear handoff information for awarded projects, including scope, assumptions, exclusions, risks, quote backup, and unresolved items.
  • Review lessons learned from awarded and lost bids to continuously improve estimating quality and processes.
What We’re Looking For
  • Strong organizational and file-management skills.
  • Ability to read and understand project documents and coordinate takeoff inputs.
  • Comfort working with pricing details, scope questions, deadlines, and competing priorities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with urgency while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Proactive approach to identifying problems, asking questions, and communicating potential risks.
  • Flexibility and sound judgment when priorities or project requirements change.
  • Landscape, construction, estimating, takeoff, project management, or related experience preferred.
  • Experience with LMN, PlanSwift, Beam AI, or similar estimating/takeoff software is helpful.
What Success Looks Like

A successful Estimator at Margolis keeps bids moving ahead of deadlines, identifies missing information early, maintains organized and easy-to-review estimate files, and communicates clearly with internal and external partners.

You'll help ensure our bids are complete, competitive, and aligned with company expectations while creating a clean transition when projects move from estimating into execution.

Growth Opportunities

As you grow in the role, there is opportunity to take ownership of increasingly complex and higher-risk estimates and expand your responsibilities within preconstruction. Future development may include Lead Estimator responsibilities or a Project Manager career path depending on performance, interests, and company needs.
