Position: Shelter Manager
Reports To: Executive Director
Supervises: Staff Advocates (PT)
Status: Full-time
Overview: Margo’s Place, formally known as the Brookings Domestic Abuse Shelter, has been a cornerstone of support for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and stalking in Brookings and Kingsbury counties since 1987. We are seeking a compassionate Shelter Manager to join our team! This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy seeing the difference they can make in people’s lives. Our Shelter Manager will be responsible for supervising several part-time advocates and being the primary contact for clients and case management.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Administration
· Participate in conferences, in-service activities, and educational opportunities.
· Attend all relevant Shelter meetings and trainings.
· Accurately represents the Shelter’s philosophy and educational objectives to the public
· Assist with data management for grant compliance
Crisis Hotline Response
- Answer and document all in-coming calls to Shelter.
- Provide education, information, supportive listening, and referral information to individuals seeking assistance via telephone.
Primary contact direct services to Shelter residents / walk-ins via case management including intake, maintenance of records, and crisis intervention services
· Accurately record and document all contacts. Assist in maintaining client record keeping through state record keeping programs
- Assist residents with networking with other community services and case management including housing, employment, budgeting, and safety planning
- Provide supportive listening to residents in shelter
· Inform and update relevant team members of concerns regarding direct services, resident conflict, conflicts of interest, etc.
- Always maintain client and agency confidentiality.
- Approve client financial assistance requests in alignment with budget and organizational policy
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology, sociology, communication, marketing, or a relevant degree or equivalent work experience
- Two years of experience in community outreach, counseling, communication, and/or crisis response
- Excellent organizational, communication (verbal and written), problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to encourage, empathize, and guide
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel
- Ability to lift 25lbs intermittently and stand for long periods of time
This position is generally day hours, but may include weekends, evenings, and holidays. Must be able to participate in flexible scheduling and on-call rotation. All of Margo’s Place’s positions are contingent on continued funding.
