Job Type: Part-Time
Pay: $13.00–$14.00 per hour
Expected Hours: Approximately 30 hours per week once regular store operations are established. Additional hours, potentially up to 40 per week, may be available during initial store setup and preparation.
Position Overview
Margie’s Haven House is seeking a dependable, organized, and hands-on Retail Associate to help establish and operate our new nonprofit resale shop in Heber Springs, Arkansas.
The shop is currently being developed. The selected candidate will assist with preparing merchandise, organizing the sales floor, setting up work areas, and getting the store ready to open.
Once operational, the Retail Associate will assist customers and donors, process donations, operate the register, stock merchandise, and help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming shopping environment.
This is an active position that requires a willingness to participate in all aspects of daily store operations.
Revenue generated by the resale shop will help support the mission and services of Margie’s Haven House.
Key Responsibilities
Store Setup & Preparation
- Assist with preparing the resale shop for opening, including cleaning, organizing merchandise, arranging displays, and setting up work areas.
- Sort, inspect, clean, price, and prepare donated merchandise for sale.
- Organize clothing racks, shelves, storage areas, and merchandise displays.
- Assist with establishing efficient daily routines as store operations develop.
- Participate in training on store procedures and the point-of-sale (POS) system.
Donations & Merchandise
- Receive and assist with processing donated items according to established procedures.
- Sort, inspect, clean, price, tag, and organize merchandise.
- Stock and replenish clothing racks, shelves, and displays.
- Help maintain organized donation-processing and storage areas.
- Identify damaged or unsuitable items and refer questions to the Retail & Donations Manager.
Customer Service & Register Operations
- Greet customers and donors in a friendly, professional manner.
- Assist customers with locating merchandise and answering questions.
- Operate the register and POS system after training.
- Process sales accurately and follow established cash-handling procedures.
- Assist with routine customer concerns and refer significant issues to the manager.
Daily Store Operations
- Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming sales floor.
- Assist with opening and closing tasks as assigned.
- Help organize merchandise and maintain attractive, accessible displays.
- Follow organizational procedures regarding safety, confidentiality, and facility access.
- Work cooperatively with the manager, other staff, and volunteers.
- Assist with other store-related duties as needed.
Qualifications & Skills
- Retail, customer service, stocking, or related work experience preferred but not required.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Friendly, professional communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work cooperatively with staff and volunteers.
- Dependability and willingness to learn.
- Basic math and computer skills.
- Willingness to learn the POS system and established store procedures.
- Ability to follow instructions, take initiative, and complete assigned tasks.
- Willingness to perform hands-on work, including sorting donations, cleaning, pricing, and stocking merchandise.
Previous thrift store or donation-processing experience is helpful but not required.
Physical Requirements
This is an active position involving standing, walking, bending, reaching, sorting merchandise, stocking shelves and clothing racks, and moving donated items throughout the workday.
Applicants must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Work Schedule
Proposed Regular Schedule:
- Wednesday–Friday: 10:00 AM–4:00 PM
- Saturday: 9:00 AM–4:00 PM
- Sunday: 1:00 PM–6:00 PM
- Monday and Tuesday: Off
Weekend availability is required.
Additional hours, potentially up to 40 per week, may be available during the initial setup and preparation period. Once regular store operations are established, the position is expected to transition to approximately 30 hours per week.
Schedules may be adjusted as store operations and staffing needs evolve.

Margie’s Haven House is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing safety, shelter, advocacy, and support to survivors of domestic violence and their children.
Our new resale shop will help generate revenue to support the organization's mission while providing an affordable shopping option for the community.
We are seeking someone who is dependable, enjoys working with people, and is willing to help build a new retail operation from the ground up.
Pay: $13.00 - $14.00 per hour
