Communications Specialist

Maret School seeks a dynamic communications specialist to support our strategic communication and marketing goals. Working across a range of digital and print platforms, the communications specialist will help bring Maret’s story to life through a compelling mix of writing, design, photography, and short-form video; promote key community events; help manage brand assets; and partner on special projects and initiatives.
This position reports directly to the director of communications, and works closely with members of the Communications, Development, and Admission Offices.
Key Responsibilities
Maret’s dynamic community and campus in the midst of Washington, DC, create a unique learning environment for students from kindergarten through twelfth grade. Expert teachers inspire students to think both creatively and analytically, seek out multiple perspectives, work hard, and make time for joy as they tackle our challenging curriculum and explore artistic and athletic pursuits. Communications Specialist

Maret School seeks a dynamic communications specialist to support our strategic communication and marketing goals. Working across a range of digital and print platforms, the communications specialist will help bring Maret’s story to life through a compelling mix of writing, design, photography, and short-form video; promote key community events; help manage brand assets; and partner on special projects and initiatives.
This position reports directly to the director of communications, and works closely with members of the Communications, Development, and Admission Offices.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce engaging written and visual content to bring Maret's story to life for the website, social media, newsletters, and other digital channels, as well as print publications;
- Coordinate content publication across platforms;
- Manage, grow, and elevate the school's social media presence to increase community engagement;
- Monitor social media content performance metrics and use data to improve effectiveness;
- Follow best practices and trends in digital marketing and social media to keep Maret’s communications fresh and relevant;
- Assist with the promotion of school events, including invitations, signage, slides, photography/video, and program design;
- Help manage requests to use official brand assets;
- Partner on special projects related to communications and marketing.
- Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, design, or a related field;
- At least two years of relevant work experience;
- Strong writing and editing skills;
- Graphic design, photography, and/or short-form video production skills;
- Proficiency in Canva required; Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Lightroom) preferred;
- Excellent working knowledge of and enthusiasm for social media with experience managing multiple platforms;
- Familiarity with SEO, Google Analytics, digital best practices, and an interest in using data to inform creative strategy;
- Flexibility and willingness to support evening and weekend school events as needed;
- A collaborative spirit and the ability to build positive relationships within the communications team and across the school.
