Building Maintenance Engineer

Maret School is seeking a skilled, hands-on maintenance engineer to join our facilities team. We are seeking an engineer who takes ownership of their work, enjoys solving problems, and takes pride in supporting a busy school community. The ideal candidate is dependable, proactive, team-oriented, and willing to assist with a wide variety of campus needs while helping maintain a safe, efficient, and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
Responsibilities
Maret’s dynamic community and campus in the midst of Washington, DC, create a unique learning environment for students from kindergarten through twelfth grade. Expert teachers inspire students to think both creatively and analytically, seek out multiple perspectives, work hard, and make time for joy as they tackle our challenging curriculum and explore artistic and athletic pursuits. The school’s mission, core values, and educational philosophy ground and guide our work.

Building Maintenance Engineer

Maret School is seeking a skilled, hands-on maintenance engineer to join our facilities team. We are seeking an engineer who takes ownership of their work, enjoys solving problems, and takes pride in supporting a busy school community. The ideal candidate is dependable, proactive, team-oriented, and willing to assist with a wide variety of campus needs while helping maintain a safe, efficient, and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on HVAC equipment including boilers, pumps, VRF systems, VAV systems, RTUs, AHUs, and FCUs
- Respond to work orders and maintenance requests with a customer-service mindset
- Assist with campus events, furniture moves, and other operational needs as assigned
- Work collaboratively with facilities staff and outside vendors to support school operations
- Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general building maintenance
- Experience using hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment
- HVAC trade experience preferred
- Familiarity with BAS systems, work order systems, and Microsoft Office
- Strong communication, organizational, and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in physically active environments
- Ability to stand, bend, climb, and move throughout campus for extended periods
- Willingness to work overtime when needed
