What are the responsibilities and job description for the Yard Manager/Supervisor position at Marchant Building Center?
We are seeking a reliable, safety-conscious Lumber Yard Supervisor to oversee daily operations, yard personnel, and inventory logistics. In this role, you will lead a dedicated team to ensure efficient loading, unloading, and staging of building materials while maintaining an exceptionally safe and organized work environment. The ideal candidate pairs strong leadership capabilities with extensive knowledge of lumber and building materials.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership: Direct, train, and schedule yard associates and forklift operators to maximize manpower and equipment efficiency.
- Operations & Safety: Enforce company safety policies, proper equipment usage (including forklifts), and OSHA compliance across the premises.
- Inventory Management: Oversee incoming shipments, verify purchase orders against physical receipts, track stock levels, and minimize material shrinkage.
- Fulfillment & Logistics: Monitor customer loading zones, build accurate outgoing load deliveries, and organize commercial vehicle dispatch logistics.
- Customer Service: Interact with contractors and retail customers directly to resolve complaints, fulfill large-scale orders, and maintain high satisfaction metrics.
- Yard Maintenance: Execute routine safety checks and keep the physical yard clean, orderly, and organized for vehicle traffic.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: IS REQUIRED. Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in a lumber yard or building materials environment.
- Equipment Mastery: Certified to operate heavy material handling machinery, including high-capacity forklifts.
- Physical Demands: Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, stand for long periods, and comfortably lift up to 50 lbs unassisted.
Pay: $15.00 - $22.00 per hour
