Responsibilities
- Deliver essential personal care services such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility assistance using equipment like Hoyer lifts when necessary.
- Monitor and record vital signs, including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration rates, accurately documenting all patient information within electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner.
- Assist with medical procedures including catheter care, wound care, medication administration under supervision, and phlebotomy when trained.
- Support patients with activities of daily living in various settings including long-term care facilities, assisted living communities, hospitals (including ICU and trauma centers), and home care environments.
- Maintain strict adherence to infection control protocols using aseptic techniques and HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality.
- Observe and report changes in patient condition promptly to nursing staff or healthcare providers.
- Use specialized equipment such as Hoyer lifts or bedside commodes safely to promote patient mobility and prevent falls or injuries.
- Engage with patients experiencing complex needs such as dementia or Alzheimer's disease by providing compassionate memory care and behavioral health support.
- Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams in acute care, emergency medicine, behavioral health units, pediatrics, geriatrics, or post-acute settings to ensure comprehensive patient service.
Experience
- Prior experience working as a CNA or in similar caregiving roles within hospital medicine, long-term care facilities, hospice care, or outpatient clinics is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated proficiency in medical terminology, anatomy knowledge, physiology fundamentals, and medical documentation practices.
- Experience utilizing EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, eClinicalWorks or similar platforms for accurate record keeping.
- Knowledge of infection control standards including aseptic technique and infectious disease care protocols.
- Exposure to specialized areas such as ICU (Intensive Care Unit), Level I Trauma Centers, Level II Trauma Centers, PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit), or surgical environments like OR experience is advantageous.
- Familiarity with working with individuals with disabilities or developmental disabilities enhances your ability to provide personalized patient-centered care.
- Certification in basic life support (BLS) is required; additional certifications such as medication administration or phlebotomy are a plus.
