About the Company
Marathon Engineering & Surveying is a civil engineering and land surveying firm founded in 2008, with offices in Rochester and Ithaca and roughly 25 employees. We are intentionally small; three partners lead the firm, and there is no layer of management between our engineers and the people making decisions. Clients work directly with the engineers handling their projects, and our engineers have direct access to leadership on every project they run.
About the Role
Our Ithaca office is looking for an experienced civil engineer to take ownership of projects from conception through construction administration & close-out. This is a senior role with direct client responsibility and meaningful autonomy. You will work alongside Adam Fishel, our partner leading the Ithaca office, managing your own projects, making real decisions, and shaping how the office grows. We are looking for someone ready to step into that level on day one.
Responsibilities
- Serve as primary point of contact for clients, consultants, municipalities, and regulatory agencies throughout planning, design, permitting, and construction
- Lead site design across grading, utilities, stormwater management, circulation, and ADA compliance
- Manage permitting and entitlement coordination with municipal, state, and federal agencies
- Oversee construction administration through project close-out
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the development of the Ithaca office
Qualifications
- 7 years of progressive experience in civil site development
- NY Professional Engineer license, or on track to obtain
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Demonstrated experience leading private development projects through municipal approvals
- Strong client communication skills and the ability to manage multiple projects independently
- Residence in or willingness to relocate to the Ithaca region
Required Skills
- 7 years of progressive experience in civil site development

Pay range and compensation package
Anticipated annual earnings for this role: $85,000–$125,000, depending on experience, with the potential to exceed that range during periods of high workload. Performance bonus, SIMPLE IRA with employer match, health, dental, and vision insurance with employer contribution.
