Position Overview
The Land Steward assists with a broad range of farm related tasks mainly focused on eradicating invasive plant species. Under the direction of the Operations Steward (OS) you will work as part of a team to foster silvopasture, landscape the farm, care for buildings/grounds and participate in numerous other projects around the property.
Essential Responsibilities
- Invasive species management (hand removal, string trimming, mowing)
- Conservation grade planting, protecting and watering
- Trail care (chipping, clearing, trimming)
- General farm maintenance and support for agricultural/livestock teams
- Based on interest, participation in shiitake production, bee keeping and maple sugaring
- Other miscellaneous duties as assigned
Required Skills, Physical Qualifications and Competencies:
- Prior experience working in outdoor conditions is a must
- Willingness to work in all weather conditions
- Preference given to candidates familiar with NJ invasive plant species
- Preference given for proven safe use of chainsaws, ride on mowers and skidsteers
- Safely operate equipment such as string trimmers, utility vehicles, backpack blowers, etc.
- Properly use and maintain shovels, wheelbarrows, rakes, hand shears, and loppers
- Excellent interpersonal skills, positive attitude and willingness to learn
- The ability to repeatedly and safely lift 50 pounds
- Work independently as well as part of a team, asking questions freely
- Follow instructions and take initiative
- Must possess a valid driver’s license
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary commensurate with experience ($20-$25 Per Hour)
- Paid time off includes Holidays, accrued 80 hours of vacation and 40 hours of Sick time
