Maintenance Assistant

Job Summary

Supports the maintenance and reliability of production equipment, refrigeration systems, and facility infrastructure at our artisan cheese and butter production facility. Works closely with production and food safety teams to minimize downtime while maintaining strict sanitation and food safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine preventive maintenance on production equipment (pasteurizers, vats, packaging machinery, forklifts)
• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and plumbing issues as they arise
• Monitor and maintain refrigeration and cold storage systems
• Support facility upkeep: general building repairs, painting, minor construction
• Maintain maintenance logs and documentation for food safety audits (GMP compliance)
• Respond to urgent equipment failures during production hours, including some early morning or weekend availability
• Follow all food safety, sanitation, and allergen control protocols when working in production areas

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical/trade certification a plus
• 1 years experience in mechanical, electrical, or facilities maintenance (food production or manufacturing environment preferred)
• Basic understanding of refrigeration, plumbing, and electrical systems
• Ability to read equipment manuals and follow lockout/tagout safety procedures
• Forklift certification (or willingness to obtain)
• Comfortable working in cold, wet environments typical of dairy production
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly
• Reliable, self-directed, and able to prioritize urgent repairs

Preferred

• Experience with commercial food processing equipment
• Basic welding or fabrication skills
• Familiarity food safety systems

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: From $19.00 per hour
