Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Fire Alarm Designer with strong AutoCAD experience to develop code-compliant fire alarm system layouts, riser diagrams, and construction documents for commercial, industrial, healthcare, educational, and multifamily projects. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of fire alarm systems, applicable NFPA and building codes, and the ability to coordinate with engineers, project managers, electricians, AHJs, and field personnel throughout the design and installation process.The ideal candidate is a creative team player will be able to think strategically across different media platforms and own the creation process from inception to production. You must be able to work both independently and collaboratively. 

Key Responsibilities
  • Design fire alarm systems in accordance with NFPA 72, NEC, IBC, IFC, and local jurisdictional requirements.
  • Create and revise fire alarm layouts, device placement drawings, riser diagrams, battery calculations, and sequence of operations using AutoCAD.
  • Prepare permit and construction drawing packages for submittal and installation.
  • Coordinate system design with mechanical, electrical, architectural, and structural drawings.
  • Review project specifications, bid documents, and customer requirements.
  • Perform voltage drop, battery standby, and circuit loading calculations.
  • Select appropriate fire alarm devices, panels, and components based on project requirements.
  • Support project managers and field technicians during installation, commissioning, and inspections.
  • Respond to AHJ comments and revise drawings as needed.
  • Maintain drawing standards, documentation accuracy, and project records.
  • Participate in design review meetings and coordination discussions with customers and contractors.
Required Qualifications
  • 2 years of fire alarm design experience.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 72 and applicable fire/life safety codes.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural and electrical construction documents.
  • Experience preparing fire alarm shop drawings and submittals.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • NICET certification in Fire Alarm Systems (Level III–IV preferred).
  • Experience with BIM/Revit coordination.
  • Knowledge of major fire alarm platforms such as:
  • Notifier
  • Simplex
  • Siemens
  • Edwards
  • Fire-Lite
  • Associate degree or technical certification in drafting, engineering technology, or related field.
