What are the responsibilities and job description for the Architectural Designer - Luxury Retail position at MAOarch?
Architectural Designer — Luxury Retail | MAOarch | New York, NY
We create spaces for some of the most iconic names in luxury fashion. We're looking for a designer who takes the creative work as seriously as we do.
MAOarch is a boutique architecture and interior design firm specializing in luxury retail. Founded in 2018, we are NCARB-certified and licensed in 14 states, with flagship and boutique projects for globally recognized brands across the country. We are a team of eleven, based in New York City.
We are seeking an Architectural Designer with 3–5 years of experience to join our studio. This is a design-forward role — the right candidate leads with creativity and brings both vision and craft to every phase of a project.
What you'll work on:
- Luxury retail interiors and architectural design, from concept through completion
- Mood board development and design narrative
- Material, finish, and FF&E selection and sourcing
- Schematic sketches and early design exploration
- Design presentations for internal reviews and client-facing meetings
- Construction drawings and technical detailing — as a boutique firm, all of our designers work across phases. While the primary focus of this role is design, the ability to contribute to CDs and more technical work when needed is essential
- Coordination with consultants, contractors, and brand teams
What we're looking for:
- 3–5 years of professional experience in architecture or interior design
- A strong design sensibility and a rigorous eye for materials, proportion, and details
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Adobe Creativ Suites; 3D modeling and visualization skills are a strong plus
- Experience preparing client presentations and design decks
- Solid technical foundation in construction documents and detailing
- Retail experience is a plus, but candidates from other project types with the right aesthetic instincts are encouraged to apply
- A genuine interest in fashion and retail — someone who follows the industry, engages with it, and brings that curiosity to their work
- Comfort working in a small, fast-moving office where flexibility and ownership are part of the job
Compensation & Benefits Competitive salary commensurate with experience. Full benefits package. Hybrid schedule.
