Purpose:
A Master's in School Administration internship provides aspiring school leaders with practical experience in various administrative functions within a school setting, including supporting instructional leadership, managing student discipline, overseeing operational tasks, collaborating with staff, and participating in school-wide decision-making, all under the guidance of a supervising principal to prepare them for future leadership roles like assistant principal or principal positions; key responsibilities may include assisting with student attendance monitoring, curriculum development, staff evaluations, budget management, and crisis response, while actively observing and learning best practices in school administration.
Key Responsibilities: Responsibilities are subject to be revised according to a Memorandum of Understanding with each university.
- Instructional Leadership:
- Assist in classroom observations to evaluate teacher effectiveness.
- Help plan and implement curriculum initiatives.
- Support teachers in data analysis and instructional improvement.
- Student Management:
- Assist in student discipline procedures and conflict resolution.
- Monitor student attendance and follow up on absences.
- Collaborate with counselors on student support needs.
- Operational Management:
- Participate in school budget planning and monitoring.
- Assist with facility management and maintenance issues
- Coordinate logistics for school events and activities
- Staff Development:
- Observe professional development sessions and provide feedback.
- Assist in planning and coordinating staff meetings.
- Support new teacher onboarding processes
- Communication and Collaboration:
- Maintain open communication with parents, teachers, and staff
- Participate in school leadership team meetings
- Collaborate with district office staff on initiatives
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Enrolled in a Master's in School Administration program
- Valid teaching license (if applicable)
- Strong leadership and organizational skills
