Summary:

My client, a dynamic Aerospace manufacturing company located in Central, CT, is seeking a Controller to join their Finance team to assist in the growth of their company and to strengthen their financial reporting and analysis.  The Controller will ensure that the company has the systems and procedures in place to support effective accounting policy implementation. Responsibilities also include coordination and execution of external audits and working closely with senior leaders in support of the financial strategy and goals of the company and its operations.  


The Controller will have the responsibility of setting and measuring key financial performance indicators and effectively communicating financial analysis and recommendations to management to improve financial performance.  The ideal candidate is someone who not only has a solid accounting background but is a critical thinker with great analytical and organization skills and works well with cross-functional teams. They must also be motivated, have great interpersonal skills, and have the ability to effectively lead and manage a team.  


My client is a rapidly growing company, and as such this candidate would have to be flexible to change and open to expanding job responsibilities to assist in achieving our goals.  Strong computer skills, especially in Microsoft Excel, is an absolute requirement. Knowledge of and experience with manufacturing ERP systems is preferred.  


Responsibilities: 


  • Directly manages Accounting Department team members which includes hiring, training, appraising performance, and developing individual goals, etc.
  • Oversee all accounting processes including Balance Sheet, Payroll, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, Purchasing, Inventory / Cost of Sales, Capital Expenditures and Treasury
  • Liaison with operational management to provide timely information in support of their roles
  • Work with operational management to identify proper performance data and create performance improvement metrics
  • Manage all processes in relation to Cash Flow reporting & governance. Including submission of forecasts / variance analysis to CFO. 
  • Reconcile and maintain all control accounts
  • Responsible for coordinating and executing the annual budget and quarterly forecasts
  • Prepare and present weekly KPIs to the Senior Leadership Team
  • Deliver accurate site Financial Performance reports in a timely manner. Including presentation of reasons for variance to stated targets, and/or variances to financial trends
  • Participate in the Sales, Inventory and Operations Planning and other relevant processes in order to develop clear P&L and cash forecasts / budgets, ensuring that future trends can be explained by rational sales and operational events and/or actions
  • Creation and maintenance of accurate costing records for monitoring product and customer profitability
  • Provide support and guidance to Business Development and Engineering teams on new business quotes
  • Identifying and managing cost saving opportunities
  • Engage with commercial team to ensure contracts are priced appropriately
  • Calculate and prepare all manual journal entries and record subsidiary ledger activity. Maintenance of entire general ledger
  • Advise business leaders on improving the financial performance of the business through analysis of management accounting reports and understanding of / participation in relevant business processes
  • Perform technical accounting research and analysis as needed
  • Review and challenge capital expenditure request analysis for return on investment as needed
  • Develop and document accounting policies for site that aligns with group policies and practices
  • Develop and document internal controls necessary to ensure integrity of accounts and transactions. Work with employees involved in those key cycles to ensure compliance with set controls
  • Complete quarterly sales & use tax calculations and return submissions
  • Complete government surveys as required for both US operation sites
  • Engage as the main point-of-contract in annual financial statement audits
  • Engage in annual corporate tax compliance activities providing assistance to Corporate Finance and Tax Professionals
  • Coordinate and lead annual physical inventory of RM, FG, and WIP 


Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, a related discipline or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.  CPA credential or MBA is preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of accounting experience in manufacturing or related industry 
  • Proficiency in Windows environment with very strong Excel skills; knowledge of accounting software experience with manufacturing ERP systems is strongly preferred
  • Must be accurate, pay attention to detail and efficient with ability to meet deadlines and maintain a high degree of confidentiality
  • Knowledge of internal controls and how to effectively implement them
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal, that projects clarity and professionalism
  • Self-starter and ability to work independently with little supervision
  • Flexible to changes and expanding responsibilities as needed
  • Willingness to work cooperatively with all levels of employees and management and with a hands-on approach to taking on various tasks as needed
