At Manufacturing Automation Group (MAG), we are building a team of innovators and leaders who take ownership of their work and drive meaningful change in how automation is designed, integrated, and delivered. The Building Manager keeps our Livonia headquarters organized, well-maintained, and fully operational.
This is a hands-on, dependable role for someone who can handle a wide range of tasks — from running company errands to building and repairing furniture and fixtures. Beyond general upkeep, this role calls for practical fabrication skills: the Building Manager should be comfortable with basic woodworking and welding to build, modify, and repair items in-house. The ideal candidate is a versatile problem-solver who takes pride in a safe, professional, and smoothly run workplace.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide general administrative and operational support at MAG headquarters.
- Run company errands, including pickups, drop-offs, deliveries, and supply runs as directed by MAG.
- Assemble and build office furniture, fixtures, and equipment as needed (e.g., desks, shelving, storage units, and similar items), ensuring items are constructed safely and correctly.
- Perform woodworking tasks such as building, modifying, and repairing wood furniture, shelving, work surfaces, storage, and other fixtures using hand and power tools.
- Perform welding and metal fabrication tasks such as building, modifying, and repairing metal frames, brackets, racks, fixtures, and equipment, following proper technique and safety practices.
- Assist with organization, supply management, mail and shipments, and upkeep of the office environment.
- Maintain the exterior grounds, including mowing the grass and general yard upkeep at MAG headquarters.
- Support MAG staff with routine tasks and requests to keep office operations running smoothly.
- Maintain a safe, organized, and professional work environment, representing MAG's standards of quality and integrity.
Skills & Qualifications
- Proven hands-on experience with woodworking — safe and competent use of hand and power tools (e.g., saws, drills, sanders) to build and repair wood items.
- Proven hands-on experience with welding and basic metal fabrication; ability to read simple measurements and produce sound, safe welds.
- Experience assembling furniture, fixtures, and equipment from instructions.
- General handyman and grounds-keeping ability, including basic maintenance and yard upkeep.
- Valid driver's license and reliable means of running company errands.
- Strong attention to safety, quality, and detail; works well independently and follows through on tasks.
- Dependable, punctual, and able to communicate promptly regarding availability.
- Good communication skills — able to coordinate clearly with MAG staff, management, and vendors, and to keep the team informed on task status and needs.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move items, and to perform physical tasks associated with maintenance, fabrication, and grounds work.
