Mantell Associates is partnered with a leading clinical supply solutions provider that is seeking a Business Development Director to drive commercial growth across the San Francisco Bay Area.
This is an exciting opportunity for a commercially focused life sciences professional with expertise in Clinical Trial Supplies to develop strategic partnerships with biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and emerging biopharma companies. The successful candidate will play a key role in expanding the organisation's presence within the clinical development market, supporting customers from early-phase studies through to global clinical programmes.
Business Development Director - Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute a strategic business development plan to drive revenue growth across the clinical trial supplies market
- Identify, engage, and secure new business opportunities with biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and emerging life sciences organisations
- Build and maintain long-term relationships with clinical operations, supply chain, procurement, and outsourcing stakeholders
- Manage the full business development lifecycle, from prospecting and proposal development through contract negotiation and successful project handover
- Promote the company's Clinical Trial Supplies capabilities, including global sourcing, comparator procurement, packaging, labelling, storage, distribution, and supply chain management
- Collaborate closely with Clinical Operations, Project Management, Quality, and Supply Chain teams to develop tailored customer solutions
- Represent the organisation at industry conferences, networking events, and customer meetings throughout North America
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and clinical outsourcing strategies to identify new commercial opportunities
- Maintain an accurate sales pipeline, providing regular forecasts and commercial updates to senior leadership
- Support strategic account growth by identifying opportunities to expand existing customer partnerships across the organisation's service offering
Business Development Director - Requirements:
- Significant business development experience within Clinical Trial Supplies, Clinical Research, CRO, CDMO, or pharmaceutical services
- Strong understanding of global clinical supply chains, comparator sourcing, clinical packaging and labelling, and investigational product logistics
- Proven track record of securing new business and consistently achieving commercial growth targets
- Established network across biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and clinical development organisations
- Experience managing complex consultative sales cycles and negotiating commercial agreements with senior stakeholders
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to identify customer needs and develop value-driven solutions
- Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across cross-functional teams
- Willingness to travel throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and wider North American territory as required
- Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Business, Supply Chain, or a related discipline; an advanced degree would be advantageous
