Controller / Director of Finance (Wealth Management)

Company Overview: We are representing a growing wealth management firm expanding our consulting services to provide comprehensive financial management support to our business clients. They are seeking a client-facing finance leader to head up our consulting division and deliver high-value financial advisory services.

Position Summary: We are looking for an experienced Advisory Controller /Director of Finance to lead our business consulting practice. This is a unique, client-facing role that combines technical accounting expertise with strategic financial advisory. You will work directly with business clients to manage their financial operations, provide P&L analysis, budgeting guidance, and strategic financial insights to help them grow and succeed.

Key Responsibilities:

Client Financial Management

• Serve as outsourced Controller/Finance Director for multiple business clients
• Oversee monthly financial close processes and produce accurate, timely P&L statements
• Manage client financial reporting packages including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements
• Review and analyze monthly financial performance against budgets and forecasts
• Identify variances, trends, and opportunities for improvement in client financials

Strategic Financial Advisory

• Partner with business owners and leadership teams to develop annual budgets and financial forecasts
• Provide variance analysis and actionable insights on financial performance
• Advise clients on cost optimization, revenue enhancement, and profitability improvement strategies
• Build financial models and scenario planning to support business decision-making
• Present financial results and recommendations to client leadership teams

Budgeting & Forecasting

• Lead annual budgeting processes for client businesses
• Develop rolling forecasts and update projections based on business performance
• Create KPI dashboards and financial metrics tracking systems
• Benchmark client performance against industry standards
• Support strategic planning initiatives with financial analysis

Business Consulting & Relationship Management

• Build trusted advisor relationships with business clients
• Understand each client's unique business model, goals, and challenges
• Provide proactive financial guidance and strategic recommendations
• Serve as primary point of contact for client finance questions and needs
• Identify opportunities to add value and expand service offerings

Team Leadership & Process Development

• Build and lead the consulting services division as the practice grows
• Develop standardized processes, templates, and best practices for client deliverables
• Mentor and train junior team members as the team expands
• Implement scalable systems and workflows to support multiple clients efficiently

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• CPA strongly preferred
• 7-10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience
• 3-5 years in a Controller, Finance Director, or similar leadership role
• Proven experience managing full-cycle accounting and financial reporting
• Strong budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis skills
• Experience working in a consulting, advisory, or multi-client environment preferred
• Excellent client-facing communication and presentation skills

Technical Skills:

• Expert-level proficiency in financial statement preparation and analysis
• Advanced Excel skills (financial modeling, pivot tables, complex formulas)
• Experience with accounting software (QuickBooks, Xero, NetSuite, or similar)
• Familiarity with financial reporting tools and dashboards (Power BI, Tableau, or similar)
• Strong understanding of GAAP accounting principles
• Knowledge of various business models and industries a plus
