Duties
- Assist dentists during a variety of dental procedures, including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry.
- Prepare treatment rooms with necessary instruments, materials, and supplies to ensure efficient patient care.
- Take and develop dental X-rays, including digital imaging and 3D scans, adhering to all safety protocols.
- Manage electronic medical records (EMR systems) such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft, and Epic for accurate documentation of patient histories and treatment plans.
- Perform vital signs monitoring and assess patient comfort throughout procedures to promote a positive experience.
- Maintain strict infection control standards using aseptic techniques and adhere to HIPAA regulations for patient privacy and confidentiality.
- Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments with the dental receptionist, verifying insurance information, and updating medical documentation.
- Ensure proper sterilization of instruments and maintain a clean, organized clinical environment in compliance with infection control guidelines.
- Assist with medical imaging procedures and understand dental terminology to facilitate effective communication within the team.
- Support pediatric patients by applying specialized techniques suitable for children’s needs and ensuring their safety during treatments.
Skills
- Proficiency with EMR systems such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft, and Epic for managing patient records efficiently.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control practices, and aseptic techniques.
- Experience with chairside assisting in general dentistry settings, including four-handed dentistry practices for increased efficiency.
- Ability to operate dental X-ray machines safely and accurately; familiarity with medical imaging technology including 3D scanners is a plus.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and medical coding for accurate documentation of procedures and treatments.
- Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with patients of all ages, especially pediatrics.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment supporting pediatric dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and other specialties.
- Familiarity with medical terminology related to dentistry and general health conditions impacting oral care.
