A thriving Biotech company in the Boston area is seeking a Payroll/HR Specialist to join their team. This person is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing while supporting various human resources functions. This role requires exceptional attention to detail, discretion, and a strong understanding of payroll systems and compliance requirements. The ideal candidate will be proactive, reliable, and passionate about maintaining efficient processes that support both employees and organizational goals.

Responsibilities

Payroll

  • Process semi-monthly payroll for employees in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records and documentation, including new hires, terminations, and compensation changes.
  • Prepare payroll-related reports for internal teams as required.
  • Manage payroll taxes, deductions, and benefit contributions accurately and on schedule.
  • Prepare and submit retirement plan contribution files.
  • Ensure compliance with wage and hour laws and internal policies.
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll, tax forms, and earnings statements.
  • Collaborate with Finance and HR to resolve discrepancies or processing issues.
  • Support the implementation or upgrade of payroll systems and related tools.

Human Resources

  • Assist with onboarding and offboarding processes, including preparation of employment documents and maintenance of personnel files.
  • Support benefits administration, including enrollments, changes, and responding to employee questions.
  • Assist with retirement plan administration and HRIS updates.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential HR records in accordance with legal and organizational requirements.
  • Support HR reporting, audits, and compliance initiatives.
  • Maintain training acknowledgments and other employee documentation.
  • Assist with coordination of employee engagement activities and events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or at least 5 year of equivalent experience.
  • Must have excellent communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate in person, over the phone and in writing as well as strong interpersonal and customer services skills.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook and ADP.
  • Knowledge of payroll laws and regulations.
  • Understanding of all payroll and benefits policies and programs.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, juggle multiple tasks simultaneously and deal with highly confidential information appropriately in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be highly-detail oriented and well organized.

Compensation

  • $95k
