Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
Current Arkansas Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing
Eligible for Arkansas educator licensure or Career and Technical Education (CTE) teaching permit in Health Sciences
Minimum of three (3) years of health care experience
One (1) to two (2) years of experience in geriatric, long-term care, rehabilitation, or elderly care preferred
Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications
Strong communication, organizational, and technology skills
Ability to work effectively with students, staff, parents, healthcare providers, and community partners
Position Summary:
The School Nurse / Medical Professions Teacher serves a dual role by providing comprehensive health services to students and staff while teaching high school Medical Professions and Health Science courses. This position prepares students for careers in healthcare through classroom instruction, hands-on learning experiences, and industry-based certifications while ensuring a safe and healthy school environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
School Nurse Responsibilities (50%)
Assess and provide care for student illnesses and injuries.
Administer medications and treatments according to district policy and physician orders.
Maintain accurate student health records and documentation.
Monitor immunization compliance and required health screenings.
Develop and maintain Individual Healthcare Plans (IHPs) and emergency care plans.
Collaborate with parents, physicians, counselors, and special education staff regarding student health needs.
Provide health education and wellness promotion activities.
Respond to medical emergencies and coordinate emergency response procedures.
Assist with communicable disease prevention and reporting requirements.
Train staff on health-related procedures, including medication administration, CPR, AED use, and emergency protocols. Offer CPR Certificatioon
Ensure compliance with Arkansas Department of Education and Arkansas Department of Health regulations.
Medical Professions Teacher Responsibilities (50%)
Teach Medical Professions, Health Science, and related Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses.
Develop engaging lesson plans aligned with Arkansas Health Science standards.
Provide instruction in healthcare fundamentals, medical terminology, patient care, ethics, infection control, and career readiness skills.
Incorporate hands-on learning, simulations, laboratory experiences, and clinical observations when appropriate.
Prepare students for industry-recognized certifications and postsecondary healthcare pathways.
Build partnerships with local healthcare facilities, nursing homes, hospitals, and community organizations.
Supervise student clinical experiences and work-based learning opportunities as applicable.
Maintain classroom safety and inventory of medical equipment and supplies.
Participate in curriculum development and program improvement activities.
Monitor student progress and maintain accurate grades and records.
