School Food Service Driver

Job Summary:

Drives delivery van and performs delivery work; performs directly related work as required.
The principal function of an employee in this class is to deliver meals & supplies from the satellite kitchen to the elementary schools. The work is performed under the supervision and direction of the Director of School Food and Nutrition Services but some leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative. The nature of the work performed requires that an employee in this class establish and maintain effective working relationships with other School Department employees and the public. The principal duties of this class are performed while operating a truck on the City of Manchester streets.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:

• Possession of a valid New Hampshire Driver’s License.
• High school graduate or the possession of a GED
• Some experience in driving delivery vehicles; or
• Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work.
• Thorough knowledge of how to operate a delivery truck in a safe and prudent manner.
• Skill in the operation of a large delivery truck.

Responsibilities of the Position:

• Loads, delivers, and unloads school lunch carts and other food supplies at various schools.
• Loads, delivers, and unloads furniture and equipment as needed at District buildings.
• Picks up and delivers mail and other documents to schools and other district related locations.
• Picks up stock from middle and senior high schools and delivers to satellite kitchen.
• Picks up money from elementary, middle and senior high schools and delivers it to administration building.
• Takes shortest and safest routes possible in transportation operations, obeying all traffic laws and monitoring other traffic.
• Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others fully and accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems.
• Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on the principles, practices and new developments in assigned work areas.
• Performs other directly related duties consistent with the role and function of the classification.

Specified Length/Hours of Position: 
This is a non-affiliated 52-week position.

Evaluation:
Evaluation of this position shall be by the Director of School Food and Nutrition Services.

Starting Pay:

$16.50/hour
