Compensation: $27.00-$34.00 per hour
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:
- Licensed by the State of New Hampshire
- Experience working with students, preferably in a school or pediatric setting
- One to two years’ experience in pediatric nursing child health, community health, or other relevant clinical nursing setting preferred
- Current CPR/AED certification by the American Heart Associate or Red Cross
- Ability to provide care and safety to students which may include assisting with activities of daily living (ADL’s), lifting and diapering/toileting
- Ability to provide emergency care/assessment in consultation with a school nurse or supervising RN
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with school nurse, school staff, parents, and external professionals
- Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude towards supporting students with diverse medical needs
Specific Core Function of a Licensed Practical Nurse:
This position provides general nursing care to students in the school environment. Assumes the responsibilities for appropriate assessment, treatment, planning, intervention, evaluation management, and referral activities for students. Provide for the promotion and maintenance of health as well as the prevention of illness and injury for the student. Provide direct and indirect care given to students in compliance with school policies, professional standard of practice, physician’s orders and individual health plans.
Responsibilities of the Position:
- In conjunction with the School Nurse, be responsible for the formulation, revision, and implementation of the Individual Health Plan
- In conjunction with the School Nurse, be responsible for the day-to-day health care needs of students including the administration of medications consistent with licensing limitations and requirements
- Maintain school nursing offices in absence of school nurse
- Maintain hypervigilance with regard to the safety and stability of the student
- Attend all classes with the student and continually monitor their health condition as well as their general well-being as required
- Monitor the students during snack, lunch and recess as required
- Attend school designated field trips when assigned
- Aim to increase the student’s self-awareness and self-management skills of their medical condition at a level that is developmentally appropriate
- Maintain a daily nursing log as directed
- In conjunction with the School Nurse, ensure the maintenance of accurate health records for the student to the district, state or other appropriate agencies, including Medicaid
- Uphold regulations and laws related to confidentiality, reporting of child abuse and neglect, and other health related requirements.
- Carry out such other tasks and duties as assigned by the supervising RN or school nurse
Specified Length/Hours of a School Nurse:
This is an affiliated (AFSCME Health Union) position under the School Nurse negotiated contract, following the school calendar with additional workshop days.
