Manchester Community Music School, a non-profit organization located in Manchester, NH, is seeking highly qualified candidates for the PART-TIME position of Director of Finance.  


Qualifications: 

  • 7-10 years’ experience in a setting with similar responsibilities 
  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or related degree 
  • Experience with computer-based accounting software platforms (QuickBooks Online, a must) 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word and its integration into presentation to the administration, Finance Committee and Board of Directors 
  • Non-profit experience is a plus.

  • Works within the procedures and systems of the school community

  • Adheres to the principles of the school and supports its mission statement 

Supervision: 

The Director of Finance reports to the Executive Director. 


Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for the accuracy of all internal and external financial reporting. Prepare and present monthly financial reporting to the Finance Committee. Finance reporting includes balance sheets, income statements and cash projections 
  • Responsible for the annual audit of the school’s financial statements 
  • Responsible for preparing, monitoring, communicating and meeting annual budget objectives 
  • Lead the development of financial forecasts, including the annual budget, through consultation with the Executive Director and Finance Committee. 
  • Handle non-budgeted items in conjunction with the Executive Director 
  • Reconcile all balance sheet accounts monthly 
  • Oversee accounts payable and authorize purchases in accordance with approved budgets and procedures 
  • Enter all month-end journal entries 
  • Supervise tuition billing and accounts receivable, payroll and bank deposits 
  • Prepare and monitor financial date associated with grants and reporting requirements 
  • Oversees credit card use 
  • Confer with the Executive Director and the Finance Committee to keep them informed of any issues concerning the financial health of the institution 
  • Responsible for the accurate preparation and timely filing of the annual 990 tax form in collaboration with CPA firm 
  • Responsible for the accurate preparation and timely filing of annual 1099 tax forms 
  • Reviews and tracks all restricted accounts and their use 
  • Reconciles all endowment accounts on a regular basis, ensuring that restricted funds are maintained in accordance with their restricted purpose 


Performance Assessment 

  • Preparation of accurate annual budgets, and budget monitoring via Budget v. Actual year-to-date reporting 
  • Accurate preparation of annual financial statements and timely completion of Annual Audit 
  • Accurate completion and timely filing of all tax documents 
  • Maintenance of effective internal controls 
  • Documentation of performance evaluations for all staff under supervision in accordance with Handbook 
  • Effective action on all outsourcing issues, including consultation, selection, and communication

Terms of Employment: 

The Director of Finance is employed with an annual fiscal year contract. The benefits and conditions of that contract are found in the contract itself and in the Employee Handbook. The position is part-time and does allow for some flexibility in schedule (i.e., ideal for mother’s hours). 20 –25 hours/week. Starts no later than July 1, 2026. Annual salary of $50,000.
