What are the responsibilities and job description for the Culinary Assistant position at Manchester Boys Club Inc.?
The Culinary Services Assistant supports the Director of Culinary Services in the daily operation of food service at the Union Street Clubhouse. This includes receiving, storing, preparing, and serving meals and snacks, maintaining kitchen operations, ensuring food safety compliance, and assisting with events as needed. This is a Monday - Friday, 32-hour per week position that is benefit eligible.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Assist in the daily operation of the Union Street kitchen and cafeteria, including preparation and distribution of meals and snacks, daily setup and cleanup, and management of vending machines (inventory and stocking).
- Maintain kitchen equipment and notify the Director of necessary repairs or maintenance.
- Ensure efficient and effective operation of all kitchen tasks.
- Maintain compliance with CACFP and SFSP regulations and requirements.
- Monitor inventory to ensure proper stock levels for smooth kitchen operations.
- Check local food banks and identify usable products for meal service.
- Monitor and enforce food safety and allergy protocols.
- Conduct daily inspections to ensure cleanliness of kitchen equipment and food service areas.
- Serve as a positive role model to members, inspiring them to achieve their full potential. Perform additional duties as assigned to support food service and Club operations.
WHAT YOU'LL HAVE
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree in Culinary Arts, Food Service, or related field preferred, or equivalent experience.
- ServSafe Certification required.
- Minimum 1 year of experience in commercial kitchen operations; experience with CACFP and SFSP preferred.
- Ability to interpret and implement federal food service regulations.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Experience working with youth in recreation, summer camp, or after-school settings is a plus.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Ability to pass annual criminal background screenings.
- Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a customer-friendly, professional approach.
- Ability to be flexible with hours to ensure coverage during school vacations, summer programs, and extended Club hours.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Respond quickly and appropriately in emergencies to ensure member safety.
- Maintain energy and focus during extended shifts, often in high-energy or loud environments.
- Lift and carry up to 25–50 lbs. of supplies or equipment.
- Perform routine physical tasks such as bending, kneeling, reaching, and climbing stairs.
- Operate standard office equipment, including phones, copiers, and computers.
