Summary
Responsible for promoting and maintaining a safety-oriented environment by being an instrumental team member that adds value by identifying areas for improvement and continued growth of our values-based safety culture. Will be an internal ambassador, instilling appropriate attitude, values, and vision in alignment with the division and company direction.
Essential Responsibilities
FAMILY
- Sets the example, communicates, and demonstrates our core values - Family, Excellence and Human Potential, as well as our purpose, vision, and mission.
- Stresses the importance of safety in all aspects of employee's job duties with emphasis on operating commercial motor vehicles, proper lifting, and job hazards at plants and job sites.
- Participates in proper and consistent dissemination of safety information and company safety policy requirements to jobsite, plant and office personnel, including but not limited to Manatt’s orientation meetings.
- Observes employee work practices to detect potential accident situations and reports to Safety Manager both safe and unsafe practices.
- Serves as resource for safety and environmental issues or concerns for all team members.
- Serves as positive representative of Manatt’s ownership and leadership to promote a safety and teamwork approach to getting the job done safer and better than anyone else.
EXCELLENCE
- Visits and inspects all plant and job sites for environmental, equipment and safety practices to ensure OSHA/MSHA/DOT/DNR compliance. Reports any concerns to Safety Manager, Project Managers and Plant Managers. Assists in developing plans and remedying concerns as necessary.
- Halts jobsite activity deemed to be imminently hazardous to personnel or property, bringing to the attention of the Plant Manager or Project Manager and Safety Manager.
- Documents and verifies all safety walk-through assessments are completed and provide coaching for continuous improvement at the plants and job sites.
- Collection of urine specimens per DOT guidelines and company policy.
- Inspects appropriate safety equipment and protective wear and distributes new PPE to employees as required.
- Documents and tracks all safety violations, unsafe conditions, and near misses.
- Assists with local and state OSHA inspections and site inspection activities.
- Engages in the process of OSHA reporting to corporate office.
- Assists in the planning and training of safety activities such as developing and conducting Toolbox Talks.
- Coordinates the acquisition of safety related equipment and materials.
- As directed by the Safety Manager, conducts periodic safety evaluations and audits providing feedback on effectiveness.
- Works with the Safety Team, investigates accidents and incidents involving company equipment and personnel and getting to the root cause to determine need for additional training and provide training.
- Confers with Safety Team and leadership concerning problems such as incident rates, abuse of equipment, safety violations, and recommends measures to improve safety record.

- Performs check rides to ensure proper operation of trucks and that trucks meets cleanliness and safety standards.
- Works with safety team to develop solutions to prevent incidents from reoccurring and communicates ideas throughout Company.

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small groups situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills
Ability to perform basic computer skills which may be enhanced by further training. Excel, PowerPoint, Word programs experience preferred.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Certified DOT Specimen Collector (willing to obtain when hired)
