Summary
The Operations Manager for Manatt’s East Ready Mix Division is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and long-term performance of all ready-mix activities within an assigned area. Reporting to the General Manager, this position leads and supports Plant Managers, Maintenance Leads, and Shop Leads to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production and delivery of ready-mix concrete. The Operations Manager is a key leadership role charged with driving safety culture, operational excellence, team development, and customer satisfaction within their assigned region.

Leadership & Culture

- Lead, coach, and develop Plant Managers, Shop Leads, and Maintenance Leads to build a high-performing, safety-focused team.
- Serve as a role model and mentor, fostering a culture of accountability, respect, and continuous improvement.

Safety & Compliance
- Promote and enforce company safety policies, practices, and regulatory compliance across all regional operations.
- Lead or participate in safety audits, incident investigations, and corrective action plans.
- Collaborate with the Safety Team to provide training and ensure a zero-incident mindset.
Operations & Efficiency
- Oversee daily production, maintenance, and delivery activities to ensure safe, timely, and cost-effective operations.
- Ensure consistent implementation of operational processes and company standards across all plants in the region.
- Monitor and manage plant and truck maintenance schedules, fuel systems, equipment installations, and regulatory inspections.
- Optimize plant performance through process improvements, resource planning, and coordination with quality control teams.
- Assist in planning and executing facility improvements and capital projects.
Customer Service & Quality
- Ensure high-quality customer service by supporting on-time delivery, product quality, and responsiveness to customer needs.
- Collaborate with batching personnel and CDPs to resolve delivery or product quality concerns.
- Represent Manatt’s in customer meetings and job sites with professionalism and integrity.
Technology & Systems
- Ensure regional personnel are trained and using technology systems effectively (e.g., CommandBatch, Lytx, Concrete Go, Geotab, iStrada).
- Identify and implement tools to enhance operational visibility, safety, and efficiency.
Administrative & Reporting
- Support hiring, onboarding, performance management, and discipline of team members within the region.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and coaching sessions.
- Track KPIs, operational metrics, fuel usage, equipment utilization, and cost control initiatives.
- Assist the General Manager in developing and executing regional strategies aligned with division-wide goals.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Directly supervises regional Plant Managers, Maintenance Leads, and Shop Leads. Carries out supervisory duties in alignment with Manatt’s values and policies, including hiring, training, performance reviews, and disciplinary actions. Works closely with the General Manager to ensure alignment and execution of strategic initiatives.
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 3 years of supervisory experience in ready mix, construction, or related field preferred.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience considered.
Core Competencies
- Deep understanding of and commitment to jobsite, plant, and transportation safety standards and practices.
- Strong knowledge of ready-mix operations, logistics, and plant and truck maintenance, with a drive for continuous improvement.
- Effective leadership and communication skills, ability to provide feedback, and lead multiple teams across locations.
- Demonstrated ability to assess situations, analyze data, prioritize tasks and make sound decisions under pressure.
Language and Communication Skills
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents, safety regulations, and production reports.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with employees, customers, and leadership.
Mathematical and Analytical Skills
- Ability to perform calculations involving ratios, percentages, and unit conversions.
- Able to interpret data, assess trends, and support decision-making.
Certifications and Licenses
- Valid Class A or B CDL with air brakes endorsement and IDOT Physical preferred.
- IDOT AGG/PCC certifications are recommended.
Other Requirements
- Acceptable driving record.
- Willingness to travel within the region as needed.
