Summary
The General Laborer - Asphalt is responsible for safely performing a variety of construction duties to assist the paving, utility, or grade crews at various locations. Primarily works on construction projects, usually working in utility capacity, by transferring from one task to another where demands require worker with varied experience and ability to work without close supervision by performing the following duties. Project size and organization of work determine whether workers spend their time on one job or transfer from task to task as project progresses to completion. Work will be performed per the foreman’s instruction.

EXCELLENCE
- Arrives at designated jobsite and receives assignment from the foreman.
- Performs any combination of following tasks: digs, spreads, and levels dirt, gravel, asphalt, and other construction materials and combination of materials using hand tools.
- Measures distances from grade stakes, drive stakes, and stretches tight line.
- Controls traffic passing near, in, or around work zones.
- Lays out stringline for mainline paving operations.
- Assists foreman in measuring patches to verify compliance with the work order.
- Saw cuts and removes asphalt.
- Blows and cleans cracks.
- Levels earth to fine grade specifications.
- Applies tack coat.
- Signals operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specifications.
- Looks for irregularities or foreign objects in asphalt mix when paving.
- Performs a variety of routine, non-machine tasks, such as general cleaning of the jobsite.
- Loads, unloads, or identifies materials, machinery, or tools, distributing them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans or specifications.
- Inspects, cleans, maintains, and repairs equipment, using mechanics’ hand tools or report malfunctions to supervisors.
- Sprays materials such as water, sand, steam, vinyl, paint, or stucco through hose to clean, coat, or seal surfaces.
- Reports unsafe conditions to foreman and reports all mishaps and injuries, no matter how slight.
- Takes initiative when assigned work is complete to help out in other tasks or jobs.
- Performs assigned work following safety procedures.
- Cleans up working area, maintains tools and returns them when assignment complete.
- Reports to foreman at end of each day to leave timecard and receive next day’s assignment.
- Participates in weekly toolbox talks and other safety meetings.
- Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Previous related experience in the construction field is a plus.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Must have a valid driver's license and a vehicle to get to the job site.

Ability to work seasonally. Typically April - November but could be called in during the winter for work as weather allows.
