The Senior Accountant plays a critical role in maintaining the financial integrity of the organization. This position is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring compliance with GAAP, state, and federal regulations, and supporting strategic financial planning for the school.
Responsibilities
- Full bookkeeping responsibilities over AP, AR, GL reconciliations, Treasury.
- Assist in budget preparation, monitoring, and variance analysis in collaboration with school leadership.
- Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal financial regulations, including charter school-specific requirements.
- Reconcile bank accounts and other financial accounts on a regular basis.
- Monitor and ensure accuracy of accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.
- Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard school assets.
- Support the CFO with special projects and strategic financial initiatives.
Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or progress toward CPA preferred.
- Minimum 4-6 years of professional accounting experience.
- Experience in a nonprofit, public sector, or education environment strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of GAAP, fund accounting, and grant management.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks) and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work collaboratively across departments.
