What are the responsibilities and job description for the Meter Services Technician I position at Manatee County Government?
Work Location: 4520 66th Street West, Bradenton, Florida 34210
Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm (Standby on Rotation)
This classification performs various functions associated with meter reading and inspecting meter installations. Position requires direct customer contact and excellent customer service skills. Work requires a high degree of accuracy and is performed with some independence in judgment and decision making within established rules, regulations, policies and procedures, and is reviewed for results obtained.
Working Conditions
Indoor/Outdoor situation; high noise environment while performing certain responsibilities. Lifting equipment up to 50 lbs. alone; up to 75 lbs. with assistance.
Essential Functions

Quickly learns the geography and street locations of the unincorporated areas of Manatee County, in order to read and inspect assigned meters throughout the County's distribution system.
Accurately reads/re-reads meters; precisely records meter readings and data by hand or utilizing a handheld data collection device.
Determines and records malfunctions, leaks, damage or suspected tampering found.
Arranges new and existing accounts in efficient read sequence number order.
Comprehends and follows oral and written directions.
Performs strenuous work under a variety of weather (including inclement) conditions.
Performs duties in various types of locations, i.e., rural sites, confined spaces, etc.
Communicates clearly and effectively, orally and in writing.
Consistently deals with coworkers and the public in a courteous, tactful and professional manner.
Records information accurately and maintains simple records.
Works rotating standby hours, weekends, and hours outside of normal schedule when requested.
Properly utilizes and maintains County tools, equipment and vehicles related to area of assignment.
Performs other related work (including weather or other extreme emergency duties) as required.
High school diploma or equivalent certificate of competency.
Valid driver's license with valid Florida driver's license within 30 days of hire.
Must successfully complete the following certifications and maintain currency thereafter:
Customer Service Communications training.
Customer Service Basic Skills training.
Building Customer Service Relationships training.
Customer Service Listening Skills training.
Internet Mapping Resources.
Outlook Bundle - MS Outlook 1.
Mobile Laptop Order Training.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to repetitively bend, squat, kneel, and lift and move up to fifty (50) pounds over a minimum period of seven (7) hours.
Ability to continuously walk, climb and enter/exit vehicles over a minimum period of seven hours.
Visual acuity sufficient to accurately read water meters and calibrate settings.
