LOCATION: Manassas Park High School
SALARY: Teacher Scale - 210 Days
HOURS: 7.5 hours per day
POSITION LENGTH: 210 Days
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR(S): High School Principal and Director of Athletics and Activities
JOB SUMMARY:
The employee provides high-quality physical education instruction (reduced schedule) aligned with division curriculum and student needs, while also supporting the planning, coordination, and supervision of interscholastic athletics and activities as the Assistant Activities Director. The role requires strong instructional practice, leadership, organization, and collaboration to support student success both during the school day and through extracurricular programs.
REQUISITE EDUCATION AND SKILLS:
- Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
- Valid Virginia Department of Education Teaching License with an endorsement in Health and Physical Education, or eligibility to obtain one.
- Administration endorsement or enrollment in an administration preparation program preferred.
- Experience as an activities director, assistant activities director, coach, or school administrator preferred.
- Experience working effectively with a diverse student population.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of physical education curriculum, instructional strategies, and assessment practices.
- Knowledge of athletic and activities programs, including VHSL, district, region, and state regulations.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and conflicting deadlines.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with students, staff, families, coaches, officials, and community partners.
- Ability to use personal computers and applicable software for instruction, communication, and program management.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: (including but not limited to the following)
- Complies with all applicable federal and state laws, Virginia Board of Education regulations, VHSL rules, and School Board policies and administrative regulations.
- Plans and delivers high-quality physical education instruction aligned with division curriculum, standards, and student needs, including differentiated instruction and assessment.
- Creates and maintains a safe, structured, and positive learning environment that promotes student wellness, teamwork, and appropriate behavior.
- Assesses, monitors, and documents student progress; maintains accurate records and completes required reports in a timely manner.
- Communicates effectively with students, parents/guardians, staff, and administration regarding expectations, progress, and program goals.
- Collaborates with school administrators, teachers, instructional assistants, coaches, and support staff to support student learning and engagement.
- Supervises students in instructional, athletic, and extracurricular settings to ensure safety and positive conduct.
- Assists with the coordination and supervision of athletic and activities programs, including event coverage, facilities scheduling, transportation, officials, and support personnel.
- Supports the orientation, supervision, and professional expectations of coaches and activity sponsors.
- Assists in ensuring compliance with athletic and activities regulations, including Title IX and other applicable requirements.
- Promotes awareness of physical education, athletics, and activities programs within the school and community.
- Participates in required meetings, professional development, and trainings.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Principal, Activities Director, or Superintendent.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- The position requires the ability to effectively communicate and interact with staff and the public through telephone and in-person contact. Duties require the ability to see, read, talk, hear, and handle or feel objects and controls.
- The employee must have the physical capability to operate standard office equipment, including but not limited to a computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions may be required.
