What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Accountnat position at Mana Accounting & Advisory?
Mana Accounting & Advisory is a fully remote, boutique outsourced accounting firm. We handle the full accounting and advisory function for our clients, covering everything from foundational bookkeeping through financial modeling, so they can focus on running their business instead of managing their books.
The name Mana comes from the concept of a vital source of energy and strength. We view finance not just as numbers but as a force that powers progress. Clear, timely financial data leads to smarter decisions, and smarter decisions change the trajectory of a business and the life of the person running it. We're not just tracking the past. We're actively shaping what comes next for our clients.
We operate on the Kaizen principle of continuous improvement. Every process we build, every workflow we design, and every deliverable we produce is held to the same standard: is this as good as it can be? We're always refining, always improving, and always executing so our clients have the information they need to make decisions that genuinely matter.
We're a small, fully remote team and we keep a relaxed, collaborative environment. No bureaucracy, no unnecessary hierarchy, just good people doing good work together. We take a lot of pride in our work and we're looking for someone who does the same.
What makes this role different from a typical outsourced accounting position is that you won't just be managing the books. You'll be working within a growing set of standardized processes and bringing your judgment to how they're applied and improved. The work you do here has a real chance to shape how a business owner understands and uses their finances.
If that sounds like the right fit for where you are in your career, keep reading.
THE ROLE
We're looking for a Senior Accountant to lead a pod of clients end to end. You'll manage a bookkeeper, run the month-end close for your clients, handle client calls and relationships, and produce advisory-level deliverables including cash projections, budgets, and forecasts.
You'll be the primary day-to-day contact for your clients, the person they trust to know their numbers and bring things to their attention before they have to ask. Beyond the close, you'll be applying Mana's established processes to each client's situation and adapting them where it makes sense. As the firm matures and standardizes, there's real opportunity to contribute your ideas and help shape what that looks like. You'll also have direct access to the firm owner for guidance on complex situations, tricky technical questions, or anything that warrants a second set of eyes. You won't be on your own.
Over time, the goal is for you to grow into a true financial partner for your clients, going beyond delivering reports to actively shaping how they think about and manage their business finances.
If you want real ownership, meaningful client relationships, and a direct line to firm leadership, this is the role.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Month-End Close & Reporting
- Own the full month-end close process for your assigned client pod
- Review bookkeeper work product and provide clear, specific feedback
- Produce and deliver financial reporting packages to clients on schedule
- Identify material variances, flag unusual activity, and document open items
- Ensure deliverables consistently meet quality and timeliness standards
Process Ownership & Client Advisory
- Apply and adapt Mana's established workflows and processes to each client in your pod
- Identify opportunities to improve existing processes and bring those ideas to the team
- Serve as the primary point of contact for your clients day to day
- Lead monthly or quarterly client calls and present financials with context and insight
- Build and maintain cash flow projections, budgets, and rolling forecasts
- Provide proactive commentary on financial trends and business performance
- Identify advisory opportunities and surface them to firm leadership
Tax Preparation
- Prepare business tax returns for clients across your pod for review
- Gather and organize supporting documentation to support an efficient review and filing process
- Stay current on relevant tax deadlines and flag upcoming filings to clients in advance
Team Collaboration
- Manage and develop your pod bookkeeper, delegating appropriately and reviewing output
- Route ad hoc client requests to the right team member rather than handling everything yourself
- Follow and contribute to firm-wide standardized processes and templates in Karbon
- Track time accurately and maintain clean work item records
- Loop in the firm owner on complex technical issues, coming with your own thinking already started
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Required
- 3 to 5 years of accounting experience in public accounting, outsourced accounting, or a similar client-facing environment
- Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks Online
- Comfortable owning client relationships and communicating clearly in writing and on calls
- Experience reviewing bookkeeper work and coaching on corrections
- Able to produce and present financial statements, cash projections, and budgets
- Based in or near the Lehigh Valley, PA area for quarterly in-person meetups
Preferred
- CPA license or active CPA candidate
- Experience working with small business clients in professional services or similar industries
- Experience with law firm accounting, including trust accounts and IOLTA reconciliation, is a plus
- Familiarity with Karbon or similar practice management software
WHO YOU ARE
Calm Under Pressure
Month-end has hard deadlines and clients sometimes have urgent requests, often at the same time. You tend to triage, communicate, and execute rather than letting the pressure pile up. You keep things moving without needing someone to manage the chaos for you.
Process-Minded
You notice when something could be done better and you say so. You're the kind of person who, after doing something twice, starts thinking about how to build a template for it. You have a continuous improvement mindset and it shows in your work.
A Delegator, Not a Hoarder
You know which work requires your judgment and which doesn't. You route the right tasks to the right people rather than trying to handle everything yourself. Your value is in your review and your thinking.
Curious About Technology
We use AI tooling, practice management software, and automated workflows. You don't need to be a developer, but you're genuinely curious about how tools can make you faster and better. If you're the kind of person who figures out new software by exploring rather than waiting for a manual, you'll fit right in.
An Owner, Not a Passenger
Your clients aren't just accounts on a list. You know their business, track their trends, and bring things to their attention before they have to ask. You care about how their financials land, not just whether they were delivered on time.
A Clear Communicator
You write well and can explain a financial issue to a business owner in plain language. You flag problems early instead of hoping they resolve themselves, and you keep people in the loop without being asked.
WHAT WE OFFER
- A small, collaborative team where good work is recognized and your voice actually shapes how the firm operates
- Fully remote with flexible scheduling. We care about output, not hours logged
- Direct access to firm leadership, no layers to cut through
- Annual performance and compensation review
- Tax season bonus for returns prepared
- Monthly health stipend
- 15 days paid time off plus all federal holidays
- Quarterly in-person team meetups in the Lehigh Valley area. We're a remote team but we invest in face time
- Compensation commensurate with experience, shared during the hiring process
