Job Summary
Under the direction of the Adult Programming Team, this full time (38-40 hours per week) position reports to the Adult Services Librarian. The Adult Program Assistant collaborates with the Adult Programming Team by performing duties including, but not limited to: program development and support (50%), program logistics and operations (20%), administrative tasks (20%), and other duties as assigned to support the Programming Department and Library operations (10%). This position requires evening and weekend hours.
Education and Experience
Required:
- High School Diploma or GED
- At least two years working in customer service
Preferred:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree
- Previous library experience
- Experience working in adult education or programming
- Experience with computers and library technology
- Familiar with G-Suite products for professional communication

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assist with adult library programming, either by planning and conducting programs themselves, collaborating with external organizations, or contracting with teachers/workshop leaders
- In collaboration with the Adult Programming Lead, develop and support approximately 100 programs per month
- Areas include: Leisure Learning, Literacy/Book Clubs, Gardening/Outdoors, Arts and Culture, Civic Engagement, Technology/Makerspace and Performing Art
- Assist coordinating program scheduling including making seasonal calendars and managing room bookings
- Assist with contract management for external program leaders, teachers, and speakers
- Program set-up and clean-up
Collaborate with Programming teams (Adult, Youth Services, Makerspace, Outreach) to develop innovative programming and conduct/compile research on new program ideas, including but not limited to:
- Summer Library Program aligned with the CSLP theme
- Seasonal Programs including: Polar Express Festival, Literary Festival, How-To Festival, PuzzlePalooza
- Plan, design, and maintain monthly library displays and track usage on a monthly basis
Contribute to the Adult Programming Team’s monthly report for the Library Director and Board of Trustees
Administrative Tasks
- Create attendance slips in order to monitor, track, and report attendance statistics for all adult programs
- Take meeting minutes for department meetings
- Assist with creating and organizing program plans
- Assist with program purchasing and budget compliance
- Maintain tidiness and organization of Adult Programming working areas, including program supplies and storage areas and monitor supply inventory
- Track Volunteer Hours - tally time given to the library through unpaid/volunteer instruction in Adult Programs and send to Volunteer Coordinator
Provide library assistance, either in-person or over the phone, with the following:
- Assist patrons in registering for a library card
- Check in and check out library materials to patrons
- Collect fines for library materials
- Answer patron questions
- Provide assistance to patrons with technology questions
- Shelve library materials when needed
Fill in for other members of the Programming Team and Library Staff as needed
