Role Description The Associate Attorney will support and manage cases across all stages of litigation, including factual investigation, legal research, drafting pleadings and motions, and preparing discovery requests and responses. This role involves direct client communication, analysis of complex legal issues, and collaboration with senior attorneys on case strategy for matters such as insurance coverage, bad faith, arson, victims’ rights, and personal injury. The Associate Attorney will assist with settlement negotiations, prepare for and participate in hearings, arbitrations, and trials, and help coordinate with external stakeholders such as experts and co-counsel. This is a full-time, on-site role based in Portland, OR, with opportunities for courtroom experience and professional development.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Law, with the ability to analyze statutes, case law, and procedural rules relevant to civil litigation.
- Experience or coursework in Labor and Employment Law, or related practice areas, supporting work on complex, multi-jurisdictional matters.
- Ability to provide clear, practical Legal Advice to clients, translating legal concepts into actionable guidance.
- Advanced Research skills, including drafting memoranda, motions, and briefs supported by thorough legal and factual analysis.
- Effective Negotiation skills for settlement discussions, mediation, and dispute resolution.
- J.D. from an accredited law school and admission (or eligibility for prompt admission) to the Oregon Bar; Washington Bar admission is a plus.
- Excellent written and oral advocacy skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple matters in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated interest or experience in insurance coverage, bad faith, personal injury, or victims’ rights litigation is preferred.
- Collaborative mindset, professional integrity, and willingness to take ownership of assignments and appear in court as needed.
Compensation
MLR offers full employee benefits including health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance and a 401k. The compensation for this role is $120,000 to $160,000 depending on experience and hours commitment.
