Travel RN – Medical Surgical (Med Surg)
Assignment Details- Specialty: Medical Surgical
- Unit: Med Surg 5S
- Shift: 12-Hour Days or Nights
- Schedule: 3x12-Hour Shifts
- Hours: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM or 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Contract Length: 13 Weeks
- 50-Mile Radius Rule Applies
- All submissions must include a copy of the candidate's unexpired driver's license
- Recent EPIC experience preferred
- Travelers must be comfortable floating within skill set
- No false nails permitted
- BLS Certification
Join a traveler-friendly Medical Surgical team caring for a diverse patient population in a collaborative hospital environment. The unit is supported by experienced charge nurses, CNAs, respiratory therapy, IV team services, and 24/7 pharmacy support.
Patient Ratios- Typical Ratio: 1:5–6
- Occasionally may increase to 1:7 toward the end of a shift depending on census and patient acuity
- Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)
- Cardiac Catheterization Recovery
- Chest Pain
- Pneumonia
- Chronic Renal Disease
- COPD
- Orthopedic Patients
- Oncology Patients
Chemotherapy administration is handled by permanent staff.

- Monitor Technicians available on most units
- RNs must be able to independently read and interpret telemetry strips
Charge Nurse
- Charge nurse available on every shift
- Day shift charge nurses do not take patient assignments
- Night shift charge nurses may carry an assignment
CNA Support
- CNAs available on all units
Respiratory Therapy
- In-house 24/7
- RT manages:
- CPAP
- BiPAP
- Ventilators
- RNs may administer aerosol treatments for non-vented patients and perform EKGs
IV Team
- Available hospital-wide:
- Monday–Friday until 10:00 PM
- Weekends until 3:30 PM
Pharmacy
- 24/7 In-House Pharmacy
- Accudose Medication System
Travelers may float based on patient care needs.
If floated to a Critical Care area, travelers will care for:
- Med Surg Patients
- Stepdown-Level Patients within competency
- Every Other Weekend (Saturday & Sunday)
- Participation in Holiday Rotation Schedule alongside permanent staff
- 1–2 Unit-Specific Orientation Shifts
- Preceptor Support Provided
- Manager is open to accommodating requests to primarily work on 6N when possible
- Every effort will be made to honor block scheduling requests based on unit needs
