Job Summary:

The Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) is a licensed independent practitioner who is responsible for managing health problems and coordinating health care for the patient in accordance with State and Federal rules and regulations and the nursing standards of care assessment of health status, diagnosis, development of plan of care and treatment, implementation of treatment plan, and evaluation of patient status.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA’s):

  • Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices, and regulations to give and evaluate medical condition(s), interpret findings, and deliver patient care.
  • Knowledge of how to use medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care.
  • Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish/maintain a safe work environment.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail that allow completion of task in a timely manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills that establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, staff, and community members.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provision of comprehensive primary care services for all ages in a primary medical care clinic setting.
  • Provide care consistent with evidence-based medicine.
  • Perform minor outpatient procedures in accordance with the scope of practice and privileging policy.
  • Provide consultation to other clinic providers either in person or by telephone.
  • Consult with clinic physicians, specialists, or other health care professionals as appropriate.
  • Assess patient needs for specialty referrals, diagnostic and in-patient care and make appropriate referrals.
  • Provide patients and family members with counseling and education regarding health maintenance, disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and need for follow up as appropriate during each patient visit.
  • Verify and document that the patient understands diagnosis, treatment and follow-up recommendations as required by uniform data system, meaningful use and patient centered medical home standards.
  • Dispense medications in accordance with State of Mississippi Pharmacy Board policies.
  • Participate in a shared call system with other providers.
  • Assist with meeting clinic patient care team productivity and quality care standards.
  • Participate in development and utilization of practice guidelines and procedures.
  • Participate in audits, and meet standards of Quality Improvement, Risk Management and Utilization Management programs.
  • Complete accurate and timely documentation in patient records and encounters within 24-48 hours after the patient visit.
  • Maintenance of credentials essential for practice, including licensure, certification and CME.
  • Demonstrate respectful, professional and appropriate behavior that supports a team-oriented work environment.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the mission, core values and goals of Mallory CHC and its healthcare delivery within our programs and services.
  • Participate in the health promotion/disease prevention activities required by the U.S. Public Health Services.
  • Attend all medical staff meetings and participate in the Community Health Center’s Quality Assurance Program.
  • Perform other necessary duties as required by the Community Health Center to meet the goals of providing primary health care.


Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program (i.e., Master’s or Doctorate)



Certifications/Licenses:

  • Current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) Licensure
  • Current Nurse Practitioner certification in specialty area
  • Current AANP or AANC certification
  • Current provider card in Basic Life Support (BLS)

duties and responsibilities.
