Become a Guardian of the Malibu Pier in Malibu, California
Do you love the Malibu Pier? We operate the Malibu Pier on behalf of California State Parks. We are looking to grow our team of Guardians to help us maintain a friendly, safe, and secure environment for visitors. Part-time positions are available. There is no prettier workplace in the world!
Responsibilities:
- Visitor experience: Welcome visitors warmly and answer questions about the Pier and Malibu. Enforce Pier rules such as no smoking and no alcohol outside restaurants, and remove repeat violators when necessary.
- Safety and security: Patrol the Pier on foot, watch for suspicious activity, and respond to incidents. Resolve and report issues to management and call on State Park Rangers or LA County Sheriffs for backup when needed.
- Emergency response: Monitor fire and other alarms, and assist with emergency response and evacuations to protect life and property.
- Facility oversight: Monitor cleanliness, maintenance, and safety conditions across public areas and restrooms, and report issues to janitors and management.
- Vendors and deliveries: Greet contractors and vendors on arrival, make sure their work areas are safe for visitors and left clean at the end of the day, and receive deliveries to the Pier.
Requirements:
- A courteous, gracious manner.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to walk extended distances outdoors in all weather conditions and to stand for long periods.
- Excellent verbal communication skills, including an ability to project authority to others in order to resolve difficult situations.
- Competent written communication skills, including an ability to write brief updates to management regarding security, janitorial, and maintenance issues.
- Ability to remain calm and composed under pressure, whether dealing with emergencies or difficult visitors.
Relevant Experience:
- Candidates with security and/or facility management experience in a hospitality setting preferred, particularly in positions which required courteous communication with customers or the public.
Compensation:
Starting at $25 per hour.
Pay: From $25.00 per hour
