Job Title: Material Handler

Department: Manufacturing

Reports To: Production Supervisor/Production Manager

FLSA Status: Hourly

Summary.

This position is responsible for executing movement of materials, sub-assemblies, and assemblies in accordance with instructions and control documents.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities.

  • Understands and demonstrates safety as a priority in all work-related activities
  • Receives, puts-away, stores and issues parts and other materials.
  • Adequately labels and maintains an organized inventory with accurate records.
  • Ability to count, retag, and return terminals to stock/shelves.
  • Transport materials, wires, and sub-assemblies within and throughout various production departments and workstations, safeguarding such from damage.
  • Actively participates in stock counting activities such as cycle counting, location audit counts and fiscal year-end inventory counts.
  • Maintains standards of a clean and organized work environment and inventory areas including disposal of empty terminal reels and removal of empty barrels from production areas.
  • Operates equipment, including but not limited to forklift, pallet picker, utility truck, banding tools, corrugated compactor, pick-up truck, and other various warehouse tools and equipment as required to complete assigned tasks.
  • Picks and stores parts/material at ground level and heights up to 16 feet using mobile stairs, forklift, and/or pallet picker as required.
  • Delivers parts to internal customer departments in the form of parts kits, stocking, or bulk delivery, as instructed.
  • Use computer and other office technology tools to prepare and/or transact pick lists, packing lists, inventory transactions, shipping documents and other daily requirements.
  • Monitor and document status of completed work moving to assembly cells.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Other duties may be assigned as required.

  • Must be able to use/read a tape measure and weight measurement tools.
  • Must be team orientated and interacts well with others.
  • Must be customer driven in approach and execution.

 

 

Education and/or Experience: High school diploma and/or general education degree (GED); or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos such as cut tickets in English.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

 

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages, and interpret bar graphs.  Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance, with and without the use of a calculator or computer.

 

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

  • Closed toed and heeled shoes required.
  • Safety glasses required in some areas.
  • Typical 10-hour workdays with occasional/frequent overtime required depending upon operational needs.
  • May be required to access stored product at a variety of heights up to 16 feet.
  • May work alone for extended periods.
  • May be required to work during production shutdowns or other “off-schedule” periods to conduct special activities such as, but not limited to, fiscal year-end inventory counts.
