Cake Decorator and Production Bakery Team Member

About the Role

Malek's Bakery is seeking a dependable, hardworking baker and a reliable team player to join the back-of-house production team at our friendly, neighborhood kosher bakery in Brighton, NY.

This position is ideal for someone with general baking knowledge who is comfortable working in a bakery environment and has experience or ability in basic cake and cookie decorating. You don't need to be a professional baker, but you should understand basic baking methods, have some hands-on experience, and be able to work efficiently as part of a production team.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the preparation and production of breads, pastries, cookies, cakes, and other bakery items.
• Follow established recipes, measurements, and production instructions.
• Mix, portion, shape, bake, fill, frost, and finish bakery products.
• Decorate cakes and cookies using basic piping, frosting, lettering, and other decorating techniques.
• Prepare ingredients, fillings, frostings, doughs, and batters.
• Complete assigned production tasks accurately and on time.
• Maintain consistent product quality, appearance, and portion sizes.
• Assist with packaging, labeling, storing, and organizing finished products.
• Keep production areas, tools, and equipment clean and organized.
• Follow food safety, sanitation, workplace safety, and kosher-handling procedures.
• Assist other bakery team members as needed during busy production periods.

Qualifications

• General knowledge of baking methods and ingredients.
• Ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately.
• Ability to decorate cakes and cookies.
• Comfortable using common bakery tools and equipment.
• Previous bakery, kitchen, food production, or decorating experience is required.
• Willingness to learn Malek's Bakery recipes, products, and production methods.
• Dependable, punctual, organized, and able to work well with others.
• Able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Wedding cake decorating and Spanish-speaking are a plus.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry more than 50 pounds.
• Ability to carry ingredients, supplies, and products up and down stairs.
• Ability to stand for extended periods.
• Ability to bend, reach, lift, push, pull, and perform repetitive tasks.
• Ability to work safely in a warm or high-temperature bakery environment.

Schedule

• Full-time position.
• Must be available Sunday through Friday. (Malek's Bakery is closed on Saturdays.)
• Must be available for early mornings and extended shifts when required — you must be a "morning person"!
• Must be willing to work long days or overtime during holidays and high-volume production periods.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate does not need to be a professional baker but should have enough baking and decorating knowledge to contribute to production with proper training. The ideal employee has a strong attendance record and work ethic, is always looking out for what needs to be done next, and is able to work both independently and as a supportive team player. You must be able to meet multiple deadlines and manage competing priorities, adapt to a frequently changing environment, and maintain professional standards in stressful situations. We are looking for someone who works with urgency, follows instructions, maintains quality standards, and is willing to help wherever needed.

There is potential for long-term career opportunities — the bakery will be undergoing relocation and expansion in the next 12–24 months.
