The Role: Behavioral Technician (BT)
The Behavioral Technician (BT) provides direct behavioral support services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in Makom's clinic-based setting. Under the supervision of a licensed clinician or Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), the BT implements individualized behavior support plans, promotes skill development, and supports individuals in achieving meaningful personal, social, and behavioral goals.
This role is ideal for individuals who are patient, observant, and committed to delivering evidence-based, trauma-informed, and person-centered behavioral care.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Behavioral Technician plays a critical role in supporting individuals' growth, safety, and well-being. Essential responsibilities include:
Behavioral Support & Skill Development
Implement individualized behavior intervention and support plans as designed by clinical supervisors.
Provide 1:1 and small-group behavioral support within a clinic environment.
Support individuals with communication skills, emotional regulation, coping strategies, and daily living skills.
Utilize positive behavior supports and trauma-informed approaches at all times.
Data Collection & Documentation
Collect accurate data on behavior, skill acquisition, and individual progress.
Complete all required documentation thoroughly, accurately, and in a timely manner.
Maintain confidentiality and client dignity in compliance with HIPAA and Makom policies.
Collaboration & Professional Engagement
Collaborate with clinical staff, interdisciplinary team members, and supervisors.
Participate in ongoing training, supervision sessions, and team meetings.
Respond appropriately to behavioral challenges using approved de-escalation techniques.
Other Responsibilities
Maintain a safe, respectful, and supportive clinic environment.
Perform other duties as assigned. Responsibilities may evolve based on individual or organizational needs.
Work Environment:
Clinic-based setting serving adults receiving behavioral and therapeutic services.
Physical Demands:
May include standing, walking, lifting, assisting with mobility, bending, and responding to behavioral incidents. Ability to sit, stand, and move throughout the clinic as needed.
Schedule:
This is a full-time, exempt position. Standard office operations are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional work outside these hours as needed.
Work Model:
This position is primarily on-site. Makom offers a hybrid working environment for some roles; eligibility is determined by leadership based on position needs.
Travel:
Primarily local travel within the DMV region, with occasional travel outside the region.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required (bachelor's degree in psychology, human services, education, or a related field preferred).
Ability to follow behavior plans, clinical protocols, and supervisory direction.
Strong communication, observation, and documentation skills.
Ability to remain calm, patient, and professional in challenging situations.
Ability to pass required background checks and clearances.
Preferred Qualifications
Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification or willingness to obtain.
Experience working with adults with IDD and/or behavioral health needs.
Familiarity with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles.
Prior experience in a clinic or therapeutic setting.
Experience with data collection and electronic documentation systems.
